What sun filters to look for in foundations

There are two types of filters.

1. 1

   Physical or mineral (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide), are mineral powder, the particles of which reflect sunlight.

2. 2

   Chemical - these are organic compounds that react to ultraviolet radiation and trigger a reaction that converts harmful UV radiation into harmless heat. An example of such filters is Mexoryl XL, SX.

It’s easy to combine both forms of sun protection in foundations: mineral pigments can also block solar radiation, but you shouldn’t rely on their protection alone. A combination of physical and chemical filters is the best option.

It's not all that simple though.

A very specific thing - it is white in texture, but with microparticles. The texture due to mineral filters is classic “rubber”, but quite plastic - it dissolves on the face and is absorbed quickly. It does not give a noticeable color - it is a light, light tint and smoothes the skin, mattifies it a little. Note that the higher the UV protection, the higher the density of the foundation and the more likely it is that it will lie in an uneven layer or interfere throughout the day, causing a feeling of clogged pores and even heaviness on the face. But there is a solution for this problem, replace the word “cream” with “fluid”, and choose a tinted product with sun protection with a light texture. It may not fully tint the skin, but it will not create a mask effect and will not cause irritation to the epidermis.

Protection level

The number on the packaging of the protective cream means how long you can enjoy sunlight without getting sunburned. First, notice how long it takes before you blush. Let’s say 5 minutes and choosing a foundation with SPF 10: 5 x 10 = 50 minutes of quiet exposure to the sun. But we choose a cream for toning the face and additional protection from harmful UV rays, which means this arithmetic is not entirely appropriate when choosing a foundation, and yet, Let's talk about the SPF value in numbers:

Post-peeling protective
