They have a pleasant-to-touch structure, colorful colors, and all kids adore them. And most importantly, homemade toys carry the warmth of mother’s hands.

You can sew anything from felt: dolls, animals, birds, cars, and even vegetables and fruits. It is advisable to select bright colors of felt for creativity, and use synthetic padding as a filler. You will also need a set of sewing supplies and various decorations. It is important that all prepared materials are natural and safe.

We offer you several simple master classes on sewing felt toys that will help you surprise and delight children with real toy wonders.

We will need: colored felt, filler, two beads, thread, needle and scissors.

Step one: we make patterns for the details of the dog according to the proposed pattern, transfer them to pieces of fabric and cut out all the resulting parts. Next, we sew the legs to both halves of the body.

Step two: sew the spots to the head and the heart to the back of the dog.

Step three: sew both halves of the dog together, leaving a hole at the bottom for stuffing. We fill the toy with padding polyester and sew up the left hole. We sew on the beady eyes, and then embroider the nose and mouth.

Step four: sew ears and a bow to the head.

Step five: in the same way we sew the remaining dogs, the diagrams of which are in front of you. Such a family of small puppies can be hung on a mobile for newborn children, as well as on a crib. And if you use beads or cereals as a filler, the toys will further develop the baby’s fine motor skills.

Felt apple - master class

We will need: dark green, dark brown and green or red (for a red apple) pieces of felt, brown, green or red thread.

Operating procedure:

  1. We make cardboard patterns according to the diagram and cut out 6 apple pieces from green pieces of felt and 1 piece for a leaf from dark green felt. A pattern is not required for the stalk. We simply cut out a small rectangle measuring 1.5 by 2.5 cm from brown felt. We mark the upper part according to the diagram on the apple parts.
  2. We sew all the parts of the apple together using double green thread, leaving a hole of about 5 cm for stuffing. Turn the apple right side out and then stuff it with filling. Sew up the edges by making a large knot in the middle of the top of the apple, wrapping the thread 5 or 6 times around the needle.
  3. We pass a needle and thread through the center of the fruit and lightly tighten the lower and upper parts. This will give the apple a more realistic shape. We pass the needle back through the middle and secure the thread well.
  4. We roll up the brown stalk and sew it along its length. We embroider veins on the leaf with green thread.
  5. We wrap the leaf around the stalk and sew them together at the base. Sew the leaf to the apple. You can sew other fruits and vegetables in the same order.

Charming felt cat - master class

We will need: bright pieces of felt, filler, two beads, small bows and bright threads.

Operating procedure:

  2. We design the cat's face. We cut out the eyes and nose from felt. Attach beads to the center of the eye. We embroider the eyelashes and mouth on the face with thread.
  3. We sew both parts of the cat with a loop stitch, leaving a hole for stuffing, and fill it with padding polyester. Finally, we sew bows to the toy. These cute cats in bright colors can be sewn in any quantity and hung on a mobile for newborn children.

Felt dog with a flower - master class

We will need: beige felt, two beads, a button for a flower, a ribbon.

The world of childhood in modern times is replete with various toys and entertainment. And yet, the child is happy when his mother works on creating a gift for her child. He watches the process of making his favorite animal and looks forward to holding it in his hands. Patterning animals from felt is easy to do. In this article we will look at various patterns and types of products made from this material, since needlewomen pay special attention to it.

Why felt

This material allows you to create many different products, such as educational books, toys, appliqués on clothes, pillows, and this is not a complete list of ideas. The soft zoo is especially popular. Below is a pattern of felt animals that can be used to make a children's toy.

The density of this material varies from thin to very dense. During operation, the edges of the felt do not fray, which greatly reduces production time. From a sheet of high-density fabric, it is enough to cut out one piece and decorate it as desired. In addition, felt has bright rainbow colors and their derivative shades.

You can sew a voluminous product from thin material. Animal patterns made from felt are good because they have a minimum of details and allow you to create bright toys in a short time.

Variety of products

Those who are just trying to sew toys from felt can start with a simple flat product consisting of one piece or two identical ones stitched together. An edge processed with a hand-made decorative seam will look more original. To create such toys you will need a felt animal pattern with one element. Simply print the template or transfer the design from the screen onto a sheet of paper, then copy the image onto felt and cut it out. You can sew on button eyes, embroider the features of the face with thread, and the toy is ready. If you place filler between two duplicated parts and sew the edges, then your product will gain volume.

Felt toys are often sewn when creating a finger puppet theater. In this case, the lower part of the product is not stitched, leaving a hole for the finger. And also they don’t stuff anything.

Another way to develop children's memory and thinking is to create an alphabet. At the same time, not only letters are sewn, but also animals are created to pair with each sign. For example: F - giraffe, L - fox, S - elephant and so on.

What is the difficulty?

Those who have mastered working with felt can try creating toys from several parts. In the process of sewing these products, the elements are superimposed on each other and sewn one by one. Often, when making such toys, thick felt of various colors is used. No filler is used in this case.

If you glue a magnet to the back of the toy, you will get an original decoration for the refrigerator. You can make each part of one animal separately and firmly sew on the buttons. The child can assemble the product himself by attaching legs or a tail to the body.

Skilled needlewomen come up with various puzzles with images of animals. This option is more difficult than the previous ones, as it requires perseverance and accuracy. And yet, it has its own originality and is aimed at developing attentiveness and fine motor skills in children.

If you are interested in animals and the images of which are given in the article), feel free to start creating them, starting with light elements. Gradually you will master this type of needlework and will be able to make your own unique toys.

Crafts do not require large expenditures, and the variety of patterns will allow you to “populate” an entire closet with handicrafts. Knowing how to sew felt toys, you can not only please your children, but also acquire useful skills. Learn the secrets of needlework and start creating.

Learn how to sew felt toys and you will forget about boredom.

Working with soft but durable material made from animal underfur is a pleasure. But there is also a difficulty in such crafts - this is the ability to make seams correctly, as well as to evenly fill the product with filler.

How to sew felt toys with your own hands

Choose the right felt:

  • pay attention to the thickness of the material. The assortment usually includes felt from 1 to 5 mm in thickness. For small parts it is more convenient to use thinner material, for the base of the craft - thicker;
  • for creating toys, felt made from 100% polyester or 100% viscose is best suited.

Stock up:

  • scissors. Stationery ones with straight ends and curly ones are required. And also a roller knife;
  • marker for marking patterns or tailor's chalk;
  • polyester sewing threads;
  • needles with a thin tip and a large eye;
  • PVA or textile glue;
  • filler – synthetic fluff or holofiber;
  • beads for eyes or beads to decorate a toy.

Make patterns: select a model of the product, and according to the diagrams presented, carefully cut out parts of the toy from paper. Place the cutouts on the fabric, trace with a marker and cut along the outline.

Sew felt toy parts. Thick felt is the base of the toy; smaller parts are sewn onto it. The body of the toy consists of two halves; the paws, ears and eyes are sewn on both sides of the base.

What seam to use to sew felt toys:

  • The component parts of the product can be sewn together with any type of seam. But the most preferred are loop stitches or “forward needle”;
  • the body of the toy is sewn together with an overcast stitch;
  • stitches are performed both by hand and using a sewing machine.

Fill the craft to the end. When the body of the craft is half sewn, place the filler inside, make sure that the toy has become elastic on all sides, and sew the product to the end.

Making funny felt toys with your own hands can be very interesting for both children and adults, and detailed diagrams with patterns will help you create many options for animals, characters and other crafts. Felt is considered one of the most popular materials among needlewomen; it is easy and pleasant to work with.

There are several types of this material, which it is recommended to be able to understand in order to make high-quality toys.

How to choose felt for making

This type of material comes in different thicknesses:

Felt can differ in composition, which can be: completely made of natural wool, half-woolen, eco felt, acrylic and synthetic.

In order to choose the appropriate type of this material, it is worth considering all the advantages and disadvantages of each of its types:

  • wool is ideal for making decor, accessories, jewelry, but it tends to shrink after washing, become shaggy and form pills;
  • half-wool has a smooth texture, it is convenient to make most crafts from it, but due to its softness, the toy may not hold its shape;
  • acrylic material practically does not shrink, does not fade, it can be easily cleaned, but it is prone to shine, fraying, and does not tolerate high temperatures;
  • synthetic tends to show through when the sheet width is less than 2 mm, but it is very durable in texture.

To choose the right felt, you should first think about what will be made from it, whether it requires frequent use or washing. Based on these questions, it will be much better to choose the type of material.

Required Tools

To make toys from felt with your own hands with patterns, it will not be enough to have only sheets of material and templates available; you will additionally need special office tools.

For example, to make a toy there must be several types of scissors:

To evenly cut out the core of flowers or make holes, a punch can be useful. To make markings, a disappearing marker is often used. It will be convenient to draw patterns with a simple gel pen.

The parts are sewn together with simple threads, and floss is used for decoration. When sewing by hand, you need to select needles with thin and sharp tips. PVA, Moment or textile glue may also be useful. Bulk products often require filler; you can use cotton wool, padding polyester, holofiber, polyethylene granules and foam rubber.
