Then fill it with crumpled newspaper and carefully pack it with linen or pack it in a special box.

To prevent the hat from deforming and changing its shape, it is not recommended to hang it. It will last longer and maintain its appearance if you place it on a flat surface.

Never wash hats; they are molded on special machines and cannot be restored to shape at home.

To prevent the front of the hat from becoming damaged by sweat, folded blotting paper is placed between the inner leather band and the hat itself.

If shiny or worn areas appear on the hat, you need to lightly rub with fine sandpaper or sprinkle fine salt on this surface and clean with a stiff brush. In addition, ammonia diluted half and half with water is used to clean felt hats. After this, soak a piece of coarse cloth in this solution and wipe off the dirt. But remember, it is not recommended to wet the hat too much with the solution, because it may become deformed. After cleaning, wipe the felt hat with a dry cloth, smooth it with a dry stiff brush and dry thoroughly. If there are greasy places on the hat, they are wiped with a solution of ammonia and denatured alcohol mixed in equal quantities. If there are grease stains, they should be removed with gasoline or stain remover. White limescale stains can be removed with colorless table vinegar mixed half and half with water.

Colored felt hats are cleaned with ether or gasoline.

Bread crust works best for cleaning light-colored hats.

Gray and beige felt hats, contaminated with sweat and dust, are cleaned with a solution of 5 tablespoons of vinegar, 5 tablespoons of ammonia and 1.5 tablespoons of table salt. The solution is stirred until the salt dissolves. Moisten a clean white rag in this solution and clean the contaminated areas. Then wipe with a dry, clean cloth or napkin.

A felt hat can also be cleaned with dry cotton wool, having first dipped it in dry semolina.

And remember the golden rule - hats made of felt or velor are not recommended to be worn in rainy weather. But, nevertheless, if you get caught in the rain, then before the hat dries, fill it with well-crumpled newsprint. Pour some water into the kettle and put it on fire. Having received a strong stream of steam, bring the hat to it, and then comb it with a clean brush in the direction of the pile (if it is velor). After this, dry the hat.
The brims of felt hats sometimes become wavy and irregularly curved. Iron the brim with a moderately hot iron through a soft, damp cloth, placing a soft bedding underneath. Carefully shape the brim of the hat, hot from the iron and wet from the steam, into the desired shape. To smooth the top of the hat, place a bag of sand or crumpled paper into it. Velor hats cannot be ironed.

You should clean your felt hat with a brush regularly. If you get caught in the rain, the dust will turn to dirt and stain the felt.
