It doesn’t really matter how true this story is, but it is impossible to deny that mascara is now one of the main elements of makeup and really makes the look much more open and expressive, drawing attention to the most beautiful part of a woman’s appearance - her eyes. Modern mascaras have a much more complex composition than the first one invented, and are no longer some kind of know-how that can impress in itself. But despite the fact that this cosmetic item is already one of the most familiar elements of our cosmetic bag, not everyone knows how to use it correctly.

The basics of applying mascara are instinctively clear to everyone, but at the same time, many are still faced with the fact that eyelashes stick together, do not lengthen, and take on a sloppy appearance. To avoid such incidents, you first need to choose the mascara that suits you.

Choosing mascara

Not every one of us is naturally endowed with long and thick eyelashes, which only need tinting to add a color accent. And you need to choose mascara depending on the initial data that nature has endowed us with.

Even properly selected mascara deteriorates over time. Do not store an open bottle for more than three months! It harbors bacteria, and staining eyelashes with such mascara can cause allergies and irritation.

It is also worth paying attention to your color type. If you have light eyes, hair and eyelashes, then coal-black mascara will weigh down the image and will look unnatural. It may be appropriate in bright evening makeup, but for the daytime option it is better to choose a tinted mascara that will highlight your natural colors, without shifting all attention to the element that stands out as artificial - overly shaded eyes.

And don’t forget that if you choose colored mascara for makeup, then you should avoid bright shadows, pencils and eyeliners. Procedure for applying mascara to eyelashes

You should wash your face and remove any remnants of old makeup, if any. Do not tint already dried layers of mascara if you want to avoid lumps! Better reapply!
Curl your eyelashes with a special eyelash curler to give them an extra curl. If there are no tweezers, press the eyelashes with your finger to the upper eyelid and hold them in this position for a while.
First of all, apply a small amount of mascara to the lower eyelashes. Don't apply too much color to your lower eyelashes - this will inevitably make your look heavier.
Dip the brush into the mascara, removing excess on the edge of the bottle, and starting from the roots, using zigzag and vibrating movements, apply mascara to the ends, reaching the ends - you need to lightly press the eyelashes with the brush towards the eyelid to fix them in a curled position.
After applying 1-2 layers of mascara (the second should be applied without waiting for the first to dry), comb them with a special comb to further separate the eyelashes, get rid of lumps and achieve uniform distribution of mascara along the entire length.

The main part of the mascara should settle at the roots and not at the ends. Mascara at the roots creates a “frame” that holds the entire structure. Mascara at the ends will, on the contrary, bend the eyelashes down, “killing” the curl.

The previous section describes the option of tinting eyelashes for every day. But if you want to achieve a more expressive effect, there are several techniques that will make your eyelashes even more interesting.

Dip the wand into the mascara and bring it closer to your eye, then start blinking quickly. This technique is useful for those who only need to slightly highlight their eyes and create the most natural makeup possible.

This technique is not suitable for coloring the lower eyelashes, only the upper ones.

To make your eyelashes even longer, after applying the first layer, dust them with a little loose powder, then apply the next layer, moving the brush in a zigzag manner.
If you are going out, you can apply mascara in 3-4 layers, rather than 1-2 as usual, to brighten your eyes or apply false eyelashes.
In addition to the already learned rule that you need to paint your eyelashes starting from the roots to the tips, it is also important that you should start coloring from the inner corner of the eye, gradually moving towards the temple, so the eyelashes will gain even more volume.
Despite the fact that you often really want to tilt the brush in order to better paint complex areas, you must always hold it horizontally, this way you will avoid the effect of “spider legs” - sticky, sloppy eyelashes.
To lengthen your eyelashes as much as possible, lift your head up a little, and use a brush with mascara to stretch your eyelashes so that they “follow” it.
