Bump after epilation in the bikini area. Ingrown hair in the bikini area: causes and remedies. Folk remedies for ingrown hairs

We endure the pain of hair removal in the bikini area in order to look perfect after epilation. And therefore it is very disappointing when, instead of ideal smoothness, we get such a picture.

In addition to being ugly, it also gives a lot of discomfort. In contact with clothing, inflamed skin hurts, itches and itches. And if the foci of inflammation at the site of the ingrown hair turn into abscesses, then quite intense pain can also join.

Gradually, on the site of ingrown hairs are formed dark spots which make the picture even more depressing. These spots, even after hair removal, can remain on the skin for several months, gradually turning pale.

The reasons

A bikini is an area of the skin that is affected by several factors at once, leading to ingrown hair after depilation. These are factors that are characteristic of any other part of the body, and features that are specific only to the intimate area. Therefore, it turns out that everything can be fine on the legs and in the armpits, but no one wants to demonstrate the bikini area.

Hair follicle injury

It happens quite often as a result of improper hair removal techniques. And if for an outdoor bikini, where the hair all grows in one direction, it is easy to follow the technique and remove everything according to growth or against hair growth, but for depilation deep bikini The professionalism of the master in depilation is very important.

Several improper hair removal treatments can leave the client with permanent ingrown hair problems in the future.

Overgrowth of the mouths of the follicles with keratinizing epithelium

If the skin is dense, then the mouths of the hair follicles may narrow or completely close with horny skin scales. This complicates both the process of hair removal and the further growth of each of the hairs.

Constant rubbing of clothing

If usually friction on the edges of the underwear and the seams of clothing does not cause discomfort, then the skin injured during depilation may react to the touch of the fabric with irritation and redness. Irritation is a predisposing factor in the appearance of ingrown hairs, pustules at the site of damaged follicles.

The cause of irritation can be not only tight clothing, but also underwear made of synthetic fabrics that do not absorb moisture and create the so-called "greenhouse effect".

Hormonal changes

Usually, hormonal changes contribute to ingrown hairs. That is why women often notice that ingrown hairs appear or their number increases significantly during pregnancy.

Is it true that hair grows less after sugaring?

In fact, there are no ways that cause ingrown hairs to a greater extent than other methods of depilation. Sugaring came to us later than hair removal with an epilator and wax.

If we talk about methods of getting rid of unwanted vegetation, then it’s more likely that you need to find your own master who will do the procedure technically correctly. It could be waxing, and shugaring, and newfangled hair removal with a thread.

Most importantly, the hair should be removed with minimal damage to the hair follicles.

How to remove them in the bikini area

Treatment for ingrown hairs should begin with simple methods and gradually move on to traumatic (surgical). You can arrange them in order from simple to complex in the following order:

  • compliance with the rules of skin care after the depilation procedure;
  • steaming and softening of the skin;
  • the use of scrubs and moisturizer;
  • the use of exfoliating agents (enzymes, salicylic acid, bodyaga);
  • removal of ingrown hairs with tweezers or a needle;
  • opening of abscesses at the site of ingrown hairs by the surgeon.

Let's look at each of the methods in more detail.

Rules for skin care after depilation

Usually each of the masters tells in detail how and what to do after the procedure. But few of the clients actually follow these rules. Therefore, the results are not always encouraging. Here are the rules:

  • immediately after the procedure, you need to use underwear only from natural fabrics, fairly loose about the cut;
  • at least for a day after the procedure, it is necessary to abandon the relationship of nylon tights;
  • for several days it is better not to wear very tight trousers and jeans;
  • on the first day you should not swim in open water, visit the pool and sauna, take a bath;
  • after a shower, it is necessary to treat the skin in the bikini area with an antiseptic solution, for example, chlorhexidine, and apply a thin layer of Bepanten ointment;
  • until the redness subsides, it is recommended to limit sexual intercourse;
  • as long as redness persists after the procedure, it is not recommended to apply cosmetics to the skin.

Steaming and softening the skin

Often, such a procedure is enough to facilitate the growing hairs out. For steaming you need a piece soft tissue and warm water. Or you can use folk way when bread and warmed milk are used to steam the skin.

In any case, the cloth or bread must be dipped in a warm liquid, squeezed slightly and placed on the skin in the place where it is necessary to get rid of ingrown hairs.

You can repeat the procedure several times until the skin is steamed enough to open the pores and upper layer the epidermis will not become loose enough to allow easy removal of ingrown hairs.

The use of scrubs

Fighting ingrown hair with scrubs is simple: starting from 5-7 days after the procedure, you can start using cosmetics with exfoliating particles once every two to three days. After each use of the scrub, it is recommended to moisturize the skin with a cream.

The use of products with a peeling effect

Photo: bodyagi powder mixture

The easiest option is to use lotions to treat acne. Typically, these lotions include azelaic or salicylic acid, which have a noticeable exfoliating effect.

You can also use ready-made funds with enzymes such as papain and bromelain, which not only exfoliate dead skin, but also slow down the process of new hair growth.

Alternatively, you can use a mixture of bodyagi powder and hydrogen peroxide. The gruel must be applied to the area of ingrown hair for 10 minutes every day for a week.

The use of peels helps prevent ingrown hairs, so they should be used as a prophylactic after each depilation procedure.

Needle removal

Doctors strongly do not recommend removing them on their own with a needle or tweezers at home, as there is a risk of spreading a purulent infection. But with every ingrown hair you will not go to the surgeon, because in most cases women cope with the problem on their own.

The most important thing is to use antiseptics and remove only those hairs that are located on the surface and do not have signs of purulent inflammation around them.

When to seek the help of a surgeon

You should consult a surgeon about ingrown hairs when subcutaneous “bumps” form, which become either larger or smaller. This usually means that a wave-like process of suppuration occurs in the hair follicle, which either intensifies or disappears.

Do not count on the fact that the "bumps" will pass by themselves. If there is no outflow of pus, the hair remains in the tissues, then the inflammation will recur.

There are cases when such subcutaneous abscesses are opened on their own. Then, in addition to pus, one or more hairs can come out of them. But it also happens that the inflammation spreads to the surrounding tissues and an abscess is formed, which requires emergency surgical treatment.

An attempt to open the “bump” with a needle or squeeze it out by pressing fingers or nails can provoke the development of an abscess.

But the cover coarsens, becomes thicker, the process of natural cell death is disrupted. Because of this, the hair simply cannot grow through the skin, it is forced to twist and then grow back.

This problem may be a signal that the body is experiencing violations of the endocrine system, hormonal levels or beriberi. With such diseases, a lot of hair shafts are noticeable on the surface of the thighs or in the pubic part.

The main rule to follow is in no case to try to squeeze a pimple with a damaged bulb.

This will only make it worse. You will damage the deep layers of the dermis with strong pressure, and also deform the already inflamed bulb.

The next thing not to do is to continue depilation if there are damaged areas. This also includes continuing to use a method that makes you uncomfortable.

Do not use creams for ingrown hairs. They will only exacerbate the situation by making the skin more dense.

You can not often open painful points. Firstly, you can introduce an infection, and secondly, many damaged bulbs recover on their own over time.

Let's try to determine the causes of the appearance of bumps on the skin, as well as how to prevent their reappearance.

Many girls and women face ingrown unwanted hair in the bikini area already at the age when they begin to actively follow fashion and take care of their own body. The problem of ingrown hairs, both in the bikini area and in any other places of the skin on the body, is due to improper epilation.

But also in salons where experts do hair removal in the bikini area, such incidents are no exception. It is enough not to sterilize any tool, to work without gloves, or to use old wax, as in a couple of days the consequences of the work of a bad specialist will be visible.

Also, dermatologists can name a number of other reasons why ingrown hairs occur in the bikini area - this is a predisposition of human skin and hair called hyperkeratosis. If a person’s hairs are dark and rather stiff, they will almost always grow into the skin even with simple depilation, regardless of the devices used.

Any methods of epilation or depilation using various devices and special creams can remove part of the hair, leaving a hair follicle under the skin. With the constant use of these procedures, you can notice that the hair becomes less and less thin, but the surface of the skin is not visible, it gradually begins to coarsen and thicken due to the keratinized epidermis, which is exfoliated in the usual process, and now they close the mouth of the follicle. As a result, there is an impossibility of a weakened hair to break through the upper, coarsened layer of the skin, which continues to grow under it and deliver many unpleasant moments.

Ingrown hair can also appear from inadequate preparation of the skin in the epilation or depilation area, both before and after the hair removal process. Ingrown hair in the bikini area can also appear as a consequence of the constant wearing of tight and very tight underwear, which causes severe chafing of the skin.

Consequences of ingrown hair

Ingrown hairs are newly grown hairs that do not find an outlet due to damage to the surface layer of the skin as a result of any method of hair removal. Therefore, they begin to grow deep into the skin, forming a small bump, sometimes even with an internal content - liquid. The liquid may be in the form of pus, if you try to press and scratch it, then the lump may increase in size and change color to a bluish tint and look like a bruise.

Or wait a while if the small ball doesn't cause you much trouble: it doesn't itch or become inflamed anymore. Maybe over time, the hair will find a way out, and the bump will resolve on its own.

Sometimes permanent ingrown hairs are called a disease, with regard to their abnormal growth and are referred to as pathology in medicine as pseudofolliculitis, where treatment of ingrown hairs is often required. If you personally found one small bump at the epilation site, you should not attribute this disease to yourself, as a rule, it appears in people all the time and is noticeable not only in the area where the hair removal procedures were performed. Better think about how to improve the epilation process or switch to another method to avoid the consequences and remove ingrown hairs in the bikini area.

Ingrown hairs usually appear in areas that are shaved or epilated. The process when the hair does not break out, but grows inward, is called pseudofolliculitis.

Ingrown hair in the bikini area is a common problem, as the skin here is very thin and prone to irritation. It is especially unpleasant when the follicle becomes inflamed, causing considerable discomfort. However, there are ways to prevent ingrown hairs, and if this has already happened, then quickly cope with inflammation.

In men, the epidermis is rougher, so pseudofolliculitis occurs more often in them than in the fairer sex. because of advanced level testosterone, the sebaceous glands work at an accelerated rate, releasing an excessive amount of fat. This several times increases the likelihood of inflammation, which is more pronounced. Fortunately, not all men remove vegetation in the groin.

The reasons for abnormal hair growth are as follows:

  • too frequent shaving procedures lead to thickening of the epidermis and thinning of the hairs. An insufficiently sharp blade, skin injuries, strong pressure on the machine, shaving against hair growth can provoke a defect;
  • non-compliance with the technique of the depilation procedure, neglect of preliminary preparation;
  • as a result of accelerated keratinization of the epithelium (follicular hyperkeratosis, "goose bumps"), the hair simply cannot break through;
  • naturally dry and thin skin prone to frequent irritations;
  • thick, coarse and curly hair growing in different directions;
  • tight underwear made of synthetic rubs, disrupts the oxygen exchange of skin cells, prevents the evaporation of sweat from the surface;
  • the location of the bulbs at an angle.

If the hair follicle in the groin is inflamed, then the cause must be sought in improper hygiene. intimate zone. A secret is collected around the hair twisted under the epidermis sebaceous gland, sweat, particles of dirt. All this mass is an excellent breeding ground for the growth of pathogenic bacteria. There is itching, slight soreness, a papule with a white or yellow head and a red rim is formed on the surface. Inside it, a loop or tip of a hair is visible. If the reproduction of microbes is not stopped, then a dense nodule is formed, and then an abscess.

But inflammation can also begin with careful hygiene. It's just that the body perceives an ingrown hair as a foreign inclusion and tries to reject it. There is itching, swelling, redness. After a while, the woman notices that the ingrown hair in the groin has become a lump filled with white contents.

How to get rid of ingrown hairs?

If the twisted ring is clearly visible through the epidermis, then it is located shallow. Hair can be carefully removed, but only if there is no inflammation and pus. To do this, the affected area is steamed in warm water or a decoction of chamomile, succession. Then carefully wipe with alcohol or any antiseptic (for example, Chlorhexidine). Hands must be washed and also disinfected.

With a thin needle from a disposable sterile syringe, gently pull the skin and pull the hair out. After that, it is captured with disinfected tweezers and pulled out (do not pull out so as not to damage the bulb) strictly in the direction of growth. Finally, the wound is treated with hydrogen peroxide and lubricated with antibacterial ointment (Levomekol, Metrogil). The bikini area is not shaved or epilated until complete healing damaged area.

How to treat inflammation?

When the ingrown hair in the bikini area has become a bump, you can no longer touch it. Mechanical impact can provoke even more inflammation of the tissues and the penetration of infection into the dermis. This often results in blood poisoning.

To begin with, you should refrain from removing hair in the groin and try to cope with inflammation. In some cases, the body itself rejects the foreign body. The contents of the pimple spontaneously breaks out along with the unruly hair. This process lasts a week or longer, but there are ways to speed up healing:

  • the bump is lubricated with a gel with benzoyl peroxide twice a day (Baziron AS);
  • in the morning and in the evening cauterize the pimple salicylic acid or tincture of calendula;
  • for resorption of purulent contents at night, a compress with Vishnevsky's liniment is made. A sterile bandage is smoothed four times, a pea ointment is applied to it and applied to the inflamed area. Fix the compress with a plaster.

Also, increased attention is paid to the hygiene of the lesion in order to avoid the addition of a secondary infection.

Prevention rules

To prevent ingrown hairs, following simple preventive rules will help:

  1. Particular attention should be paid to the preparation of the intimate area for depilation, namely, the preliminary softening of the skin. It is recommended to slightly steam it in warm water, for example, under a shower or in a bath. Then you should apply a scrub that exfoliates dead cells of the epidermis.
  2. When shaving, it is undesirable to drive the machine against the direction of hair growth. You can not put too much pressure on the skin, stretch it. Ideally, the hairs should be cut off the first time. Be sure to use shaving foams or gels, and finally apply special sedatives.
  3. Important daily after water procedures moisturize the integument with milk, lotion or body oil.
  4. If after shaving or wax depilation ingrown hairs always remain, it is better to choose another way to get rid of unwanted vegetation. For example, try sugaring, laser or photoepilation in the salon.

If an ingrown hair in the bikini area has become a lump with pus, then it is better not to risk your health, but to entrust the opening of the abscess to a specialist. A dermatologist or cosmetologist under sterile conditions will remove the rod and clean the canal. After the procedure, a small wound will remain, and after its healing - a barely noticeable speck. Brightening peels and creams will help get rid of pigmentation.

The bikini area is rightfully considered the most delicate area, so the approach to it should be appropriate. Depilation or epilation contribute to the fact that the skin on this part of the body often becomes inflamed. Ingrown hairs appear that do not look aesthetically pleasing. Many girls, out of inexperience, try to squeeze out a neoplasm, provoking pain and even more problems. To cope with ingrown hairs, you need to act in stages. Let's consider each step in order.

Causes of ingrown hairs

  1. When epilation or depilation is carried out without observing the preparatory steps, the bulb is damaged. The hair grows in the other direction, as a result of which it cannot “penetrate” the upper layer of the dermis.
  2. The most common reasons include hormonal imbalance. It provokes diseases of the endocrine system, so estrogen begins to be produced with a vengeance.
  3. There are frequent cases when the hair canal overgrows due to the fact that it was damaged during the epilation process. It can often be observed that several hairs begin to grow simultaneously from one bulb. One of them will be ingrown.
  4. If epilation is performed with wax or sugar paste with the use of strips (removal against growth), the hair often breaks off between the upper and lower layers of the dermis. As a result, the bulb is not removed, causing an ingrown effect.
  5. If we talk about depilation, the procedure is often performed with a razor with a dull blade. The consequence of such actions is considered to be cutting off the skin along with part of the hair. Ingrown hairs appear due to a further violation of the direction of growth.
  6. If you wear pressure underwear made of synthetic fibers after the procedure, the skin stops breathing. The effect of steaming weakens and softens the hair, as a result of which they cannot break through the upper layer of the dermis. The hairs are twisted, forming a tubercle under the skin.

Mechanical removal of ingrown hairs

Step #1. Steaming
Steaming the epidermis must be performed in order to make it easier for the hair to crawl out to the surface. The tissues soften, as a result of which the process takes place at a natural level.

  1. Hot bath. To properly carry out the procedure, take a hot bath with medicinal herbs. Brew 100 gr. any plant in boiling water, let it brew for 1 hour, then strain and pour into the bath. The duration of the procedure should not be less than half an hour. In parallel with this, you can rub the skin in the bikini area with a soft washcloth to increase blood flow in this area.
  2. Compress. If you do not have a bath, steam the epidermis with a compress based on medicinal plants. To make it, fold a gauze or cotton cloth in several layers, dip it in a hot decoction, wring it out and apply it to the skin. Brew herbs with the expectation that for 1 liter. steep boiling water accounts for 45 gr. plants. The duration of the exposure of the compress should not be less than 20 minutes. Constantly moisten the cloth in hot infusion to maintain the effect of the procedure. You can moisten a small terry towel in the decoction, and then apply it to the skin.

Important!
The most effective medicinal herbs from which a compress / bath can be prepared are the following: raspberry leaves, birch and oak bark, lemon and orange peel, medicinal chamomile. Also, do not forget about sage, horsetail, calendula, yarrow, succession, thyme, dandelion flowers, celandine.

Step #2. Peeling
After steaming, it is necessary to do a peeling that will remove dead cells of the epidermis. As a result of such manipulations, the hairs will come out to the surface, you just have to pluck them with tweezers.

After taking a bath or applying a compress, treat the skin with an antiseptic solution. Suitable hydrogen peroxide (3%), "Chlorhexidine", "Septocid", medical alcohol or even vodka. Then choose one of the recipes below and follow the scrub procedure.

  1. Sugar and honey. Combine in one mass 45 gr. cane (brown) sugar, add such an amount of honey that the mixture resembles a paste. Spread over the skin immediately, massage in circular motions for 5 minutes, rinse.
  2. Grapefruit and oil. Take the zest from one grapefruit or pomelo, dry the peel in a convenient way. You can carry out the procedure using the oven or leave the product in the sun. Next, grind the zest in a coffee grinder / blender, dilute olive oil to a creamy consistency. Do peeling for 7 minutes.
  3. Cereals. The composition is based on oatmeal fine or medium grinding, it all depends on the sensitivity of the dermis. Mix 35 gr. composition with 70 gr. fat cottage cheese or thick sour cream, apply to the skin, massage for 5 minutes. Remove excess with a tissue.
  4. Coffee grounds. Perhaps the most effective and easiest way to remove dead cells. If you brew coffee in a machine, take a handful of used grounds and mix with 35 gr. liquid honey. Bring the scrub to homogeneity, carry out the procedure for 3 minutes.
  5. Walnut. Peel 5 walnut kernels from the shell, grind in a coffee grinder or blender, add 30 gr. thick sour cream. Pour rye bran on the tip of a knife, pour in 5 ml. eucalyptus ether. Mix the ingredients, spread the mass over the bikini area and massage it for about 3 minutes.
  6. Honey and almonds. Roast 5 almonds, pass through a coffee grinder, meat grinder or blender. Add 40 gr. candied honey and 10 ml. vegetable oil. Do the peeling for 5 minutes, remove the residue with water.
