Choose a daily sunscreen. Overview
With the first rays of the warm spring sun, our skin will need special protection. And we were puzzled by the search for a product for daily protection with UV filters.
Research over the past 20 years has shown that areas of the skin that are most exposed to solar radiation show more signs of premature aging or "photoaging". It is manifested by excessive dryness of the skin, reduced collagen content, reduced elasticity, and the formation of wrinkles in areas that are exposed to the longest exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The weakest link, of course, is the face, which needs sun protection even in winter. But alas, we don't. It seems to us that sun protection is needed only in summer, with clear skies and on the beach. Actually it is not. The rays of the sun in winter and spring may be less aggressive than in summer, but just as dangerous.
Today we have the opportunity to reduce the harmful effects of sunlight by using daily sun protection creams. In their composition there are substances that work as a filter. They filter the sun's rays, separating the rays that are beneficial from those that are harmful to our skin.
Best of all, a cream and compact powder with UV filters will cope with the task. Choose products with an SPF of at least 15. But, don't think that when using different products containing SPF, their values add up (cream SPF 8 and powder SPF 10 in total will not give SPF 18).
Mysterious letters SPF, UVA, UVA, UVB and UVC
Before we start choosing a cream, it is worth recalling that UV radiation is divided into three ranges: UV BUT, UV IN and UV FROM.
Almost all UVC radiation is trapped by the atmosphere, and therefore almost never reaches the earth's surface.
UVB radiation penetrates the epidermis (top layer of the skin), but does not enter the dermis. These rays responsible for sunburn, as they have a strong damaging effect.
UVA radiation has the highest penetrating power. In human skin, UVA rays reach the middle layers of the dermis. UVA radiation is the cause of hyperpigmentation, photoaging and skin cancer.
As a rule, UV filters are divided into 2 categories: chemical and physical. Creams with physical protection create a protective screen that is opaque to the rays on the surface of the skin. They contain titanium and zinc oxide. The second group - with the mechanism of chemical protection. They contain vegetable oils, derivatives of quinoline and benzene, which do not transmit rays of harmful length into the deeper layers of the skin.
Sunscreen often says "SPF 15, 20, 50" on the packaging. This inscription says only about the degree of protection from "B" rays and such creams will not allow the skin to burn during prolonged exposure to the sun. The higher the value, the higher the protection.
On the packaging of creams that protect against "A" rays is marked P ++. The more pluses, the higher the protection.
In UVA-labeled creams, the substances they contain protect the skin from the "A" and "B" rays. These are quality creams.
The older you are, the more protection the cream should have.
Let's start counting
Many of us don't know that the SPF (sun protector factor) designation on a cosmetic product indicates how long you can stay in the sun without the risk of sunburn using this product.
The calculation is pretty simple. Without sunscreen, you can be out in the sun for 25 minutes before your skin turns red. Using a product with SPF15, you can stay in the sun without the risk of redness for 15 times longer (15 times 25).
Often, when buying sunscreen, sellers offer to focus on the phototype. But, phototypes are rather a conditional division. It is difficult to determine by eye which phototype you belong to, therefore, if it is not known to you for certain, be guided by your previous experience and how your skin reacts to the sun, how quickly it burns, being unprotected, than on the descriptive characteristics of skin color, hair and eyes. Indeed, contrary to stereotypes, blondes often have a beautiful bronze tan, and brunettes quickly burn and turn into boiled cancer.
Daily sunscreen can be SPF, no more than 15. Unless of course you spend most of the day indoors.
A cream with SPF, to maintain its protective functions, should be the last product (before applying makeup) that you apply to your face. This means that toners, serums, moisturizers/lotions, and acne treatments should be applied BEFORE using an SPF product. But to choose a cream with SPF, which would be suitable in terms of texture, in terms of its care qualities and be "friends" with decorative cosmetics that should be applied over it, is not an easy task.
