Since ancient times, there has been a tradition of holding carnivals during any celebrations. People have always loved carnivals, especially Italians. For example, the carnival in old Venice. At this time, you could dress up in completely unimaginable costumes and put a mask on your face. Then no one will recognize you and you can do whatever you want during the carnival. Then servants and masters became equal.

They could dance and have fun together. The masks were made very beautiful, shiny, richly decorated with stones and beads. The costumes were also very beautiful. The carnival mask, an element of such days, is the subject of our lesson. In this lesson we will draw two types of carnival masks step by step.

Stage 1. Let's draw a straight line. On it we draw two identical parts with slits for the eyes. Next, we bend various curls from these parts to the sides. These will be the edges of our mask. All these patterns must be drawn strictly symmetrically. Then we outline the slits for the eyes along their contour, stepping back about half a centimeter.

Stage 2. Below, under the slits for the eyes, we will draw patterns in the form of eights right near the bridge of the nose, and patterns in the form of petals further to the outer corners of the eyes. Let's draw long lines outside the mask. From the outer corners of the eye slits, draw two long eyelashes. On top of the bridge of the nose we will mark the magnificent feathers. There are five of them. And they all different sizes. We draw the spines of the feather, and then from the spines we draw the planes of the feather itself.

Stage 3. Let's also add the feathers that go up from the eyes. These will be three very long feathers. Thus, we decorated our mask with a magnificent bouquet of lush, thick feathers. Let's draw laces - ties. We will also decorate the mask with circles on the sides and a bead in the very middle.

Stage 4. This is what our first mask looks like in black and white format. It needs to be painted very bright colors. We chose green, red, blue, blue, yellow, and purple colors for this.

Stage 5. Now we will prepare several lines for drawing a mask of the second type. Let's draw two straight lines intersecting at right angles. Then, from the vertical line in both directions, draw two completely identical elements of the carnival mask. This is an element whose edge is raised at the top and rounded at the bottom. Let's immediately draw slits for the eyes and rings for fastening the ties. Then we will outline the edges of the entire mask with fringe and in the slots we will also show fringed edges like eyelashes. Let's outline the slits with a double line that follows the contours of the eyes.

Stage 6. On top of the eye slits we will add a border of beautiful braid, which consists of circles. Between the edges of the braid in the center we will draw many dots. Under the eyes we draw patterns that look like plant branches with a wavy line. Here we will draw the ties in the form of thin lines.

New Year's holidays, carnivals and masquerades are an opportunity to have a wonderful, fun and bright time. It will be interesting for both children and adults to participate in entertaining costumed events. However, for any holiday it is necessary to select some image, come up with and create an appropriate costume and its components. You can dress up as anyone, choosing a character you like, depending on the theme or direction of the holiday. But carnival or New Year masks have always been and will be an invariable attribute of any masquerade.

Beautiful masks sometimes don’t even require any costume, being a completely independent accessory that can convey the idea and meaning of your image. If you want your holiday to be remembered as... interesting event, turn preparation for it into an exciting creative process and create carnival masks with your own hands together with your children.

If you are preparing for a masquerade

Merry celebrations have always been unthinkable without masks. Of course, they all differ from each other: for example, Christmas or New Year masks can symbolize fairy-tale heroes, participants of the Nativity Scene, themed winter characters, and carnival ones for Halloween should already reflect the spirit of this holiday and embody its popular images. If we talk about the Venetian holiday, then there is generally a whole separate art, etc. That is, if you wish, you can learn how to create beautiful and frightening, small and large, simple and complex masks: from papier-mâché, cardboard, fabric, lace or knitted and any others.

Before you make a carnival mask with your own hands, you need to decide on your image and costume. Then she will simply continue and complement it. If you want to limit yourself to just this accessory, you will have to put in more effort, because in this case it becomes the central and main detail of your image, defining it.

Minimum effort for a spectacular look

The easiest way is to make a simple mask from scrap materials: paper, lace, felt, etc. This DIY carnival mask can be suitable for both children and adults. By the way, they come not only for women, but also for men.

Let us dwell in more detail on paper and fabric masks for children. If a child cannot decide on an image for New Year's party, choosing between a tiger, an owl and a dragon, and you don’t know how and what kind of New Year’s mask to make for him, you can fulfill all his wishes at once using an absolutely simple manufacturing technology.

  1. You need to print (using a color printer) the blanks that you like. This can be a template drawing of the head of any animal, fairy-tale character or hero.
  2. Next, this drawing needs to be cut out and glued onto cardboard (thick paper).
  3. The New Year's mask can be held on with an elastic band. To attach it, make small cuts on both sides. Then you will need to wrap an elastic band around these slits (calculate its length so that you can easily put on the mask without tearing it, but also so that it does not constantly fall off your face). You can secure the elastic band with tape or a stapler. If you want, instead of an elastic band, glue a thin stick that you can use to hold the product with your hand.
  4. This DIY New Year's mask will become even more attractive if you decorate it with sparkles, tinsel or other holiday paraphernalia.

Just as easy as making a New Year's mask for a child, you can make one for an adult party.

  • As a blank, you will need to draw or also print a regular outline (they can be either female or male). Draw two blanks at once - from plain paper or cardboard and very thick.

  • Then cut out the blanks. Don't forget the eye holes.

  • When everything is ready, glue both pieces together.

  • Now it's time for decorations. Colored feathers will look very impressive. Try covering the product thickly with them, and attach sequins and rhinestones around the eye holes.

Black lace masks are very beautiful and mysterious. Their manufacturing technology is similar to the previous ones.

  1. Prepare a regular template (draw or print). Cut it out of cardboard.
  2. Take satin fabric and glue the blank to it. After the glue has dried, carefully cut out.
  3. Next, start gluing the lace, slowly cutting off all the excess. The mask should be completely covered with lace. If there are small gaps anywhere, use black nail polish to close them.
  4. Then the lace product can be decorated with sequins, rhinestones and sparkles, and a stick or elastic band can be attached to it.

A lace black mask can be made with just lace, but to do this you will need to find thick lace that will hold its shape. Then you will have to work a little with the joining of parts and bends, gluing all the elements or stitching them, and at the end - decorate the product.

Felt masks are also cut out from paper blanks.

If you are ready to do anything for the sake of an image...

Much more effort will be required if you want to make a voluminous product from papier-mâché. You can model it on a plasticine model. Despite the somewhat laborious nature of this manufacturing process, the masks turn out to be very beautiful, impressive and more durable. In addition, you can give the accessory the exact desired shape.

You can also make a mask from modeling dough (sometimes called modeling dough) using a regular paper blank. When you cut out a layer of dough, you will have to place it on a plastic mold in the shape of a face so that the future mask can dry (before this happens, you must remember to make holes in the product for the rope). Then you can paint it, make patterns on it, decorate it with crystals, rhinestones or feathers.

How to draw a mask? This question is asked by both children and adults. Schools very often stage various skits, which, of course, require masks. You can buy it already finished goods or make something yourself. We will tell you how to draw a mask, and not just one, but several. Let's start, perhaps, with the carnival.

To draw it we need: a pencil, a sheet of A4 or A3 paper, and, of course, an eraser.

How to draw a carnival mask?

Yes, very simple. We’ll tell you exactly how now.

shaped like a face

How to draw a mask like this? We'll tell you now. For drawing you will need all the same materials and tools as for the previous drawing.

4. The next step is to add twisted lines on both sides of the masks. Trace the contours of the mask. That's all, the drawing is ready. You can paint the masks in any colors you wish. For example, make one red and the other blue. It all depends on your imagination.

Guy Fawkes mask

Now let's talk about how to draw a Guy Fawkes mask.

How to draw a mask step by step

For the drawing we will need: a blank sheet of paper, preferably, of course, A3 size, several simple pencils of varying hardness, eraser and black marker. The latter is necessary for a brighter and goatee.

Stage one

We outline something round on the sheet - this is the future face. For this it is better to take a hard pencil. The circle should be about the size of your head. In addition, we outline the main lines to make it easier to detail the face in the future.

Stage two

Try to match the size of the mask to your face, as well as the shape. Let's start with a more detailed drawing. Let's start with a straight nose. For the eyes, we are only making marks for now. Next, use smooth lines to outline the cheeks, and also draw shadow lines near the nose. Then we emphasize the nostrils and draw the beard. You can use a ruler for these purposes. We complete the nose and begin the next stage.

Stage three

Now we need to detail the eyes. We create them in the image and likeness of ours. Looking in the mirror, we draw ours and in the corners we designate two facial wrinkles.

Stage four - final

Since this is the last stage, we remove all unnecessary dashes and defects, erase where necessary with an eraser. That's all, the mask is ready.

A little conclusion

Now you know how to draw a mask with a pencil. This means that you can safely participate in protests and not be recognized.

In order to draw a carnival mask, it is better to take colored pencils, you also need a ruler and a landscape sheet.

First you need to draw a line so that the cutouts for the eyes are at the same level.

Then we draw just these cutouts for the eyes.

Draw a mask you can, for example, according to this scheme:

The simplest carnival masks are joy and sadness. To draw them, you must first mark the proportions and location of the masks, and also mark where the eyes will be. Next, draw the outlines along the contour.

We draw the eyes and mouth so that they are symmetrical.

The next step is to draw the eyebrows and nose.

    And also wrinkles with shades.

All that remains is to decorate the masks.

    Drawing a mask:

First stage. Draw a rectangle and divide it in half with a line, draw out the place of the eyes, as well as the shape of this mask, plus draw patterns around the eyes:

Second phase. We draw the place where the rope is attached and the rope itself, and draw the top part of the mask.

Third stage. To decorate our mask, just follow the pictures shown below:

Let's try to draw some simple carnival mask - without beaks or other complications. First a general sketch.

Let's come up with some kind of pattern for it.

Let's work some more in pencil and come to the conclusion that it will be better in color.

    Yes, it's better in color.

There is excellent drawing, masks Guy Fawkes. This mask can also be used for a carnival.

We begin drawing, from the very shape of the mask, the oval of the face, as in the picture

now let's draw the eyes and eyebrows

    draw a beard and nose

    draw the cheeks and mouth

draw lines on the forehead and nostrils, as in the picture.

Now it’s ready, you can color it with paints or colored pencils.

The mask resembles an infinity sign. If anyone doesn’t know, it’s a symmetrical figure eight, located horizontally. So we draw the outline of the mask like an infinity sign. You can leave it with round ends, as in the picture, or you can sharpen the ends so that it looks more like a mask. Then we draw holes for the eyes and don’t forget the ties.

You can draw an ancient art symbol of theatrical masks. Start with light movements - draw horizontal and vertical lines for future masks, and continue drawing the contours of the face. Draw the eyes in detail; they will be the same, semi-oval. And draw attention to the sketch of the mouth - on the first mask the mouth is smiling, a symbol of comedy, on the second - crying, symbolizing tragedy. All that remains is to fill in the eyebrows and apply shadows. Theatrical masks are ready.

First decide on the shape of the mask, the choice is yours. For example, let's draw an oval mask. Make sketches of the front lines. Draw eyes, nose, lips, you can add eyebrows. Remove excess auxiliary lines from the drawing with an eraser. Then draw the lips, apply shadows with a soft pencil. Or apply patterns to the surface of the mask and paint with paints.

You don't need to have any special artistic skills to paint a mask. It is drawn quite simply. However, masks are different. If we are talking about a classic mask that covers only the upper part of the face

then even a child can cope with this task. We draw something resembling a bow, making sure that the right and left parts of the mask are symmetrical. Don't forget about the slits for the eyes. Moreover, the shape of such a mask can be different:

Some of them are simple and have strict lines, others resemble butterflies, and others resemble cats. Depending on the artist’s fantasy and imagination, you can depict a stunningly beautiful mask with curls, cutouts, and ribbons.
