Carpet embroidery with a needle for beginners: materials and tools, a description of the technique with a photo. Carpet embroidery with a needle: a master class with patterns for beginners Where to get patterns for embroidering a fluffy carpet

The finished product in the technique of carpet embroidery is soft and looks like a rug. But do not assume that this technique is used exclusively for carpet products. With it, you can create a variety and unique paintings, capes, pillows.

Execution method

The first method is crochet. The ends are attached to the mesh base. Basically, this technique is used by needlewomen in North America. Such sewing is different from the initial craftsmanship. You can use not only a needle, but also a hook. Short threads are stretched and brought to the front. It is most convenient to work with burlap, it is great for creating creations with simple patterns.

Carpet style features

It does not require the mandatory presence of a special needle for sewing. It looks like a tube with a cut off eye, into which a thread is threaded. It is better to purchase it in a special store for needlework. Sewing with it is not an easy task. You also need to use a good hoop to stretch the canvas tightly. You can also use crochet. It's better to buy a ready-made set! Embroidery patterns can be purchased at a specialty store. And if you want to create a unique pattern, then you can use the Internet, where you can choose a scheme for every taste. Alternatively, draw the desired ornament yourself.

Making your own rug

This art has one significant advantage. You can use leftover threads. In the technique of tapestry, the picture is warm and soft to the touch. Such a product will become a real decoration of your life.

The first step is to purchase a pattern for embroidery. Do not forget that everything is done from the inside, and on the front there are fleecy loops. Divide into fragments, so it will be more convenient for you to distinguish the color scheme.

After careful preparation of everything necessary, we proceed to embroider along the contour of the pattern. Volumetric details are embroidered at the end. The needle is installed with the beveled side up. The length of the needles is determined by the thickness of the pile, which must be folded 2 times. For example, a pile with a length of 0.5 cm, then it should be 1 cm. The stitches are superimposed extremely simply and even beginner needlewomen can do it. We pierce the fabric with a needle, without raising it too high, so that the pile does not differ in length and in order to prevent the villi from blooming. Thus we move to the very end. This promotes accuracy.

Each fragment of the pattern is embroidered separately, starting from the edges and to the center of the image. The beveled side of the needle looks to the left. Try to do everything to the maximum in the same way, taking into account the dimensions, i.e. no more than 2 mm.

Carpet technique with thread pulling

the needle is located perpendicular to the plane of the canvas placed in the hoop;

- we place the thread located at the top of the needle behind the hand, and also make sure that knots do not form;

- pull it back until the tip is above the working material. Step back a little from the done seam, and pierce it again. Observe perpendicularity!

- over time, loops form on the front side of the fabric, which will soon become a pattern;

- after a few stitches have been made, it is necessary to cut the remaining end at a distance of 0.5 cm from the canvas. This must be done very carefully so as not to damage or stretch the tip, because. there is a possibility of disbanding the work.

Filament replacement

- when the tip of the working thread hides in the upper plane of the needle, make a few more stitches, press the final stitch with your finger and release the thread;

– cut the thread as close to the fabric as possible. To fix the tip, use textile glue;

Filling empty fragments

- we start with volumetric fragments, and then - small and straight details;

- we embroider the outline, and then we fill the inside with circular movements, or in a linear way. Methods are allowed to be combined;

- to make straight lines, use threading in several rows to create a clearer line.

The simplest crochet embroidery

We can get a rather interesting texture with the help of a hook. You can use a special one for knitting, but professional needlewomen use the one with a moving lock.

The thread must be cut into equal segments of approximately 5 cm each. We throw a hook pierced into the canvas with a piece of thread folded exactly in half, snap its lock and stretch it from the face of the canvas.

With the help of a hook, a strong knot comes out on the wrong side and arbitrary threads on the front. This method allows you to control the process itself. The surface is usually pleasant to the touch, fleecy and soft.

This one is perfect for beginners! Develops skills to work with a color palette and fabrics. Such a hobby will allow you not only to pass your free time, but also to create exclusive things that will perfectly fit into your interior.

Learning to embroider and making a cover for a stool (carpet embroidery)

Learning to embroider. Description of the process of making a pretty cover for a stool. Only two colors are used in embroidery. The simplicity of the proposed color scheme allows you to work out the skill of owning a carpet needle.

1. Fabric preparation.

We examine the edges of the linen cloth. For cutting the upper part, like any other, it is very important that the fabric has even edges in order to avoid warping, uneven cutting and other annoying mistakes. To align the edge of the fabric, you need to select the warp or weft thread on which we will align, carefully separate it from the rest of the threads and remove it from the fabric by gently pulling in the right direction.

Let's move on to the next point.

2. Creating a pattern for the upper part of the cover.

The pattern is very easy to make. We measure the length and width of the seat of the stool with a measuring tape. In my case, the dimensions of the seat: 31 cm by 31 cm, that is, this is the size of the top of the cover in finished form.

The edges of the upper part of the cover will be processed with a 0.5 cm wide buttonhole seam, which forms a semblance of a border. We add 1 cm from each edge to make it. In total, we get a square with a side of 33 cm. We draw the fabric: a square of 33x33, retreat inside the square 1 centimeter from the edges, draw a square of 31x31, getting the size of the upper part of the cover in finished form; we retreat another 0.5 cm inward from the edges, drawing a square with a side of 30 cm. 0.5 cm is just the indentation on the border. All squares naturally have a common center.

The seat of my stool has rounded edges, which are called mates in drafting. But studying the question of how to build them correctly in this case is devoid of practical meaning, therefore, if your stool also has rounded edges, I advise you to do the following: take a piece of paper, turn the stool upside down, and circle rounded corner on paper with a pencil, aligning the sides of the sheet with the sides of the stool seat. Then round the corner of the sheet by cutting off the unnecessary part along the drawn line with scissors. Then we put this sheet on the fabric and circle the resulting rounded corner, alternately combining its sides with the sides of the drawn squares. Be careful when moving paper template: round the corners for each of the three squares, each time using the sides of one square as guides, and not the adjacent sides of the other squares!

3. Drawing an embroidery pattern on the fabric.

We select a picture (in this case it is "Kiss"), we outline it with parallel lines along the most extreme points so that the picture is inscribed in a rectangle. In this rectangle we draw diagonals. The intersection point of these diagonals is the center of the pattern.

As a rule, despite the pressure, the pattern is not clearly printed on the fabric, so we circle it with a thin marker. I use a disc marker.

4. Stretching the fabric.

To stretch the fabric, I use a frame-machine. You can use an embroidery machine that is convenient for you. The fabric should be stretched evenly, without distortions and sagging. This is very important point. Working with an incorrectly stretched fabric leads to rapid hand fatigue and distortions of the embroidery pattern.

5. Preparing the carpet needle for work.

Choose the length of the pile of future embroidery. The length of the pile is determined by dividing the distance from the center of the bevel of the needle to the plastic handle in half. I decided that the cover would have a centimeter pile, so by unscrewing the clamping screw, I set the desired distance to 2 cm.

6. Insert the thread into the needle.

To embroider lips, you need a thread of dark red color. We take a needle threader. Instead, you can use a fishing line or wire folded in half and freely passing through the needle tube. I use fishing line for this purpose. We put the thread into the needle threader.

Then we stretch the needle threader through the hole opposite the oblique cut.

Thread inserted

7. The process of embroidery.

We pierce the fabric with a needle, lowering the needle all the way. The needle along the trajectory of movement is always kept with an oblique cut to the left.

Carefully remove the needle from the fabric and, retreating 1-2 millimeters, make the next puncture. During reverse movements, always keep the needle close to the surface of the fabric. A common mistake in this technique is to raise the needle high above the surface of the fabric during reverse movements, as a result of which the length of the pile turns out to be different, and sometimes this can even lead to unraveling of the embroidery.

When making carpet embroidery, first drawing outlines. This allows you to strictly delimit areas of certain colors, so as not to accidentally pierce areas of other shades with a needle. Outlining is one of the little secrets that keeps your embroidery looking neat.

Outline the contour of the lips. Remember that the oblique cut of the needle should always be directed to the left relative to the trajectory of the movement of the hand along the contour of the pattern.

Here's what happened to wrong side.

Then fill the circled outline with stitches of the desired color. We alternately move the needle between the boundaries of the contour, first up, then down. The trajectory of filling the embroidery element is from right to left.

We embroider the elements (closed contours) of the lips.

Another little secret. When embroidering a background it is necessary to make separate and frequent lines of stitches protruding from a common embroidered block. I call them speakers lines. When embroidering, I direct them up and down respectively. They provide inconspicuous connection of embroidered background blocks.

These stitches have another purpose: sometimes I use them to make a smooth color transition between the shades of the threads according to the pattern.

Gradually fill in the background with the fabric bounded by the inner square.

Performing a 2-color pattern without wisdom allows you to master the basic skills of carpet embroidery.

The border is formed by sheathing the edge of the product with a buttonhole seam. The edge of the product must be folded twice by 5 mm: the first time the edge is folded in half the distance from the outer contour of the product to the contour of the next square. The second time the edge is folded directly to the border of the carpet embroidery.

How to bend rounded corners?

We cut the fabric everyone angle to the contour of the next square (do not cut the fabric to the border of the carpet embroidery!!! This will be a mistake!) 5 times: twice where the fillets begin, once in the center of the fillet, and then we cut the center of each piece of fabric that we have already cut.

Next, cut the thread of the desired thickness 2 times the length required for embroidery. I use a thin thread in 6 additions. Fold the thread in half. Insert the thread into the needle with wide eye the edges of the thread, not the fold. We make a puncture with a needle on the border with carpet embroidery, and insert the needle into the loop formed. This method of threading the needle is used to secure the thread without knots, so called knotless method of fastening the thread to the fabric.

We pierce the fabric with a needle from the wrong side, pull the needle to the front side, pass it through the loop formed and tighten it. Thus we sheathe the edge buttonhole stitch.

When the thread ends, then we fix the end of the thread again without knots, sewing a few basting stitches into the area not yet bordered. When the entire upper part of the cover is sheathed with a border, we also fasten the end of the thread with basting stitches, only it must be pulled under the loops of the border on the wrong side.

5.9 Processing the wrong side of the product.

After the border is made, we proceed to the processing of the wrong side of the cover (on the example of another product).

We take PVA glue and dilute it in a plastic glass with water in a ratio of 2: 1 (2 parts of glue to one part of water) on the basis that the finished solution should be 1/3 of the total volume of the glass. If the solution you prepared is not enough for processing, make more.

With a hard and wide brush for glue, we process the wrong side of the upper part of the cover. Under it, you need to put unnecessary fabric in several additions (rags) and several layers of paper (for example, newspapers). The adhesive solution should not be very liquid, that is, it should not be allowed to flow from the front side. We apply the solution with a brush very quickly, immediately smearing it on the surface of the wrong side in order to prevent complete absorption. Processing the wrong side with a solution of glue is a procedure for protecting embroidery from blooming, moths and all kinds of mites that do not like glue at all)). Such processing increases the durability of the product at times.

After the solution is applied, we cover the wrong side with a polymer film (you can use an unnecessary T-shirt bag cut along one of the sides, in which the handles and bottom are cut off) and put a load on top, for example, stacks of books. Make sure the weight of the books is evenly distributed evenly by product area. We leave the product in this state for 2 days. After removing the load after this period, we open the product, remove the newspapers and the cloth, which will be slightly damp, put it on a dry surface in an open form and wait several hours until the wrong side is completely dry. If you did everything correctly, then the wrong side should be smooth to the touch, the threads should not be felt.

After drying, we glue the wrong side with interlining to give it an aesthetic appearance and have additional protection for the threads from unraveling.

II Production of the lower part of the cover

6.1 Creating a pattern

We draw the fabric for the lower part of the cover along the wrong side, having previously folded the edges of the fabric to be cut with the right sides to each other. We draw 2 squares with a common center: the first with a side of 33 cm, the second with a side of 31 cm. It is obtained if you indent from the outer square by 1 cm. These will be seam allowances. To round the corner, we use the template obtained earlier. On one side of the pattern, I advise you to leave a plus for the seams of another 1 cm: through this side we turn the lower part of the cover onto the front side and carefully stitch it. It is better to have a margin for seam allowances in order to avoid unforeseen problems.

6.2 Sew on Velcro contact tapes with a basting stitch

We cut the Velcro contact tape 66 cm long in half. We get two segments of 33 cm. We separate the halves of the tape.

We cut out a square with a side of 33 cm from the padding polyester.

We take the corresponding halves of the adhesive tape and sew them with a basting stitch to corresponding to the midpoints of the front side one of the squares.

The sequence of basted parts is as follows: the lowest one is a sintepon square, then one fabric half of the lower part of the cover lies with the wrong side to it, then the corresponding parts of the adhesive tape are baited, then the second fabric half of the cover lies with the front side to them.

6.3 Assembling the bottom of the boot

We grind the properly folded parts of the lower part of the cover along the contour, along three parties. The side where you left an extra centimeter of seam allowance does not need to be sewn up - through it the cover turns out to the front side. The lowest layer when sewing is a sintepon square. So that the synthetic winterizer does not cling to the protruding parts sewing machine(presser foot mechanism, etc.), place a larger paper square under it. Stitch the details with him. After stapling, the paper is easily separated from the cover.

As a result, you have to sew 3 sides of the bottom of the cover, attaching three pieces of adhesive tape. We have one piece of Velcro tape attached to the fourth side, which has not yet been stitched by us.

Turn the stitched part right side out. Check if the connection is correct adhesive tapes. Baste the unsewn edges of the fourth side, tucking the fabric in on each side by a centimeter. Stitch them together with the remaining piece of adhesive tape, stepping back from the edge of 2-3 mm. Iron the resulting part with an iron. Quilt it, laying 4-5 lines along one of the sides at an approximately equal distance from each other. Lay a line along the contour of the part at a distance of 3-4 mm from the edge. As a result, it should look something like this:

6.4 Assembly of the product.

Since we have a red border, we take a thin sewing needle and insert a red thread. Carefully sew the upper part of the cover to the bottom, hiding the hand seams, that is, laying them between the parts.

You can do it in another way: sew on the corners of both parts small pieces of Velcro contact tape, with which they will be attached to each other.

The result of our efforts should look like this:

P.S. This master class was filmed by me personally. Girls, who do not mind, share the link with your friends, preferably through the "Add to bookmarks" menu on the site www.kovrodelkin.ru :) I also invite all needlewomen to cooperate. My mailing list: "Rare creative needlework techniques". Now it is a bit damp, because it only includes what the needlewomen themselves do, and not what they steal on the simplicity of the Internet. Therefore, I apologize for this small circumstance :) We are working hard on improving and filling it :) Therefore, I will be grateful to everyone who will join the project and show patience, and to everyone, everyone, everyone, who will take an active part in it!

Carpet embroidery is interesting and, one might say, unusual way needlework. You don't need to have superpowers to do it. The tools for it are also very simple. Fabric and thread can be found in your old stocks or in any needlework store, and some even make a special needle for such sewing. This embroidery, the schemes of which underlie the drawing up, is performed in two ways. Distinguish between machine embroidery for the manufacture of carpets and manual embroidery - pile carpets are sewn to it. The latter method will be discussed further.

What you need to know about carpet embroidery patterns

By appearance they are reminiscent of cross-stitch patterns. For drawings, floral and geometric motifs, images of animals are used, for children - cartoon characters.

Finished work:

Result:

Patterns of embroidery in carpet technique are given above as an example, according to the resulting finished products. You can meet them at in large numbers individually and in sets.

Features of carpet embroidery

  1. Carpet embroidery can be done with a needle and a carpet hook. Knotted rugs are made last. The technique of working with a needle and a hook is different. With the help of a hook, many knots of thread are made, the method is based on weaving. This process is long and difficult, but such works are considered to be of higher quality and more valuable.
  2. Needlework is easier. The essence of the technique is to pull the threads through the fabric. The work is carried out from the inside, which is represented by loops, and on the front side - a fluffy pile. In order to avoid the descent of the loops, the finished work is covered with a solution of water + PVA glue from the inside. It is made of moderate viscosity so that it does not leak onto the front side. Carpet embroidery with a needle for beginners is more suitable than the knot method.
  3. Experienced craftsmen recommend starting work from the lower left corner and embroidering up or to the right so that the threads of the embroidered part do not interfere with needlework.

The material for embroidery is as follows:

Thick canvas or linen.

Needle for carpet embroidery. It is a hollow metal tube with an oblique cut at one end and a handle at the other. Threads are threaded into it with a wire.

Step by step photo tutorial

The work goes like this: they pierce the fabric with a needle until it stops and pull the thread to the back.

It turns out a series of loops on the wrong side.

The front surface looks like this:

As a result, the picture is as follows:

This pattern is also suitable for cross stitch. In this case, each cell of the scheme corresponds to one cell of the canvas. If the embroidery is monophonic, then the pattern is not needed.

Before work, the fabric is fixed on the frame with carnations or buttons. For different size carpets will need several frames.

Threads are taken from woolen, half-woolen, cotton, linen. They can be combined with ribbons.

Application

From the name itself it is clear that embroidery is used to create carpets. Still, as an option, she makes paintings, pillows, capes on furniture, Stuffed Toys, bags, stool mats. However, the nodular method is only suitable for rugs. Many needlewomen are delighted with carpet technology, and that's why it's worth trying to make a rug with your own hands.

Unusual needlework - carpet embroidery technique. One of the most beautiful and easy embroidery techniques is experiencing a rebirth today. Carpet weaving is popular because of the fashion for exclusive things. self made. Even a beginner in needlework can learn to embroider with this technique, you just need to be patient.

This technique has an amazing history, it began a long time ago. Today, this embroidery method is in demand in interior decoration, because the name speaks for itself: panels, tapestries, rugs. All this is often used in the interior.

In addition, the technique is used in the creation of special fashion accessories– original bags and even toys. Famous couturiers never forget about her, using her in an unusual finish. Meanwhile, the technique is so simple and interesting that even children learn after the first lesson.

You need to start with the basics, namely from ready-made sets for newbies. They include a canvas with a created pattern, plain threads, a hook and a needle.

The main thing is the basis, in this technique, to obtain a good result, they use specially treated rigid canvas. This is very important if you want to make an interior item - a tapestry, rug or bedspread.

The result also looks great. on thick fabrics that perfectly hold the shape of the finished item. Can also be applied fillet net with cells the right size if you want to make soft, plastic embroidery, for example, to decorate a simple pillow.

In addition, you will need hoop or frame, on which you will have to pull the base. It is not necessary to neglect them, especially at the beginning of mastering the technique, because they allow you to make uniform and dense stitches.

The stitches turn out well even for those who have “not a full hand”, and it also helps to select color combinations threads. Beginners should choose a pattern that is ready-made or applied to the product on their own, with clear contours and large details.

If you want to embroider a tapestry or nursery rug with a funny "cat" portrait, do not try to make mustaches, stripes and other small graphic shapes. Even a rug that is sketchy, but with clear contours, will surprise and please you with the result, and you will get the desired experience.

In carpet weaving, voluminous, thick pure wool or mixed threads still good for this acrylic and light with a bright color. When choosing a material, it must be taken into account that acrylic is easy to care for, but wool looks nobler and more interesting.

It is not in vain that knitters love this embroidery method, it helps to create unusual, and sometimes unique things almost “out of nothing”. Often the worst balls and hanks are used, and sometimes threads that should have been thrown away a long time ago.

The main tools that will be required for work:

  • needles;
  • special hooks.

So we figured out the tools for carpet embroidery for beginners.

Carpet embroidery with a needle, loop embroidery, diagram and video tutorials for free

How to embroider a carpet? To perform embroidery, you will need special needles, they help to work with a solid thread, making a pattern of voluminous interesting loops on the front side of the thing. Needles for work will need only two:

  • for thin threads;
  • for thick threads.

Needles can be purchased at sewing and craft stores. The principle of their work, regardless of the brand, is as follows: the thread passes through the entire needle with an “eye” at the sharpened end, and the fixing part makes it possible to create uniform “stitches” of the same size without great effort.

First of all, you need to create sketch. It can be either a finished drawing or your own. The main thing is that it has the correct outlines and well-made contours. It is worth remembering that the drawing is applied inside out, that is, in a mirror image. Samu the base must be well pulled on the frame, because the needle during operation can strongly pierce the fabric. Any stitch in embroidery with a needle is a simple movement, the needle must be inserted into the warp until it stops and pulled back. On the front side, a looped embroidery fabric is obtained.

Each loop is made with a simple precise movement of the needle: from the inside to the front side. Slightly retreating from the previous puncture, a new loop is made. The stitch frequency depends on how dense and voluminous you will make your embroidery. It is necessary not to raise the needle too high and not to pull the thread, leaving it free, because otherwise the embroidery loops may begin to unravel.

Carpet embroidery with a hook

Not less than nice shape and the pattern can be done with a hook. For such purposes, you can take a simple crochet hook. Real masters take a special hook with a movable lock, which helps to embroider more beautifully and more efficiently.

Unlike the technique with a needle, the threads for working with a hook need to be cut into equal segments with a length of not more than five centimeters. To get this size, the threads can be wound on a simple school ruler, and then everything will work out perfectly. On the hook threaded into the canvas, it is necessary to throw a folded piece of thread, close the hook lock and pull it out from the front side of the canvas.

Carpet technique: main types

There are two main types of embroidery in carpet technique:

  • looped. This is embroidery with carpet technique using a special needle for carpet weaving, when a pattern is created from a series of loops based on the selected pattern. A dense canvas is used as the basis for carpet embroidery. This technique is also called "non-woven tapestry";
  • nodular. It uses a special hook for carpet technology. Vinyl canvas is used as the basis for knotted carpet embroidery. Knots of short threads are tied on the weaves of the base, hence the name of the technique.

Now about each type of carpet technology in more detail.

Carpet technique: loop embroidery

This technique of embroidering carpets was used by our grandmothers. Huge carpets were embroidered on cold winter evenings. Then this technique remained forgotten a little, and now it is coming back to life again.

For work it will be necessary:

  • dense fabric;
  • yarn. Absolutely any yarn will do, but it all depends on what patterns will be chosen. It is advisable to take yarn of the same thickness and structure;
  • special needle for carpet embroidery;
  • pencil for drawing a pattern on the fabric;
  • scissors.

Choosing and drawing a picture

You can choose any patterns or patterns for embroidery in carpet technique that you like. Carpet embroidery will be carried out from the wrong side, so we will apply the contours of the pattern on it.

The fabric is not strongly stretched on the hoop, which is desirable to choose such a size so that it is possible to see the entire pattern. After the fabric is stretched, you can apply the pattern.

Special needle - the main working tool

Carpet technique by pulling involves the use of a special needle for carpet embroidery. Its tip is, as it were, cut off at an angle, and inside the needle and handle there is a hole where the thread will be pulled. On the cut side, there will be the front side of the needle, and the straight side, on which there is an eyelet for the thread, will be the back side.

For beginners, it is better to use an automatic needle, where the length of the needle is adjusted and, accordingly, the loops will be the same. As a rule, three interchangeable needles are included in the kit to easily match different thicknesses of yarn.

During carpet embroidery, the needle is held strictly with the front or side side in the direction of embroidery. But the direction of the embroidery itself does not matter at all, the main thing is that the direction of movement of the needle should be in the direction of the stitches.

Where does carpet embroidery begin?

After stretching the fabric on the hoop and applying the pattern according to the chosen pattern, we proceed to embroidery.

It is very important to keep the needle perpendicular to the fabric. The thread that comes out of the top hole in the needle handle should follow your hand to avoid tangles and knots.

After watching the video with the master class, you can understand exactly how to thread the needle through the fabric.

After that, the needle gently rises above the surface of the tissue until its tip comes out to the surface. We retreat from the already finished stitch just a couple of millimeters and thread the needle into the fabric again. Here it is important to clearly follow the chosen pattern and monitor the position of the needle (strictly perpendicular).

After 5-6 stitches, the protruding tip of the thread, from which the work began, can be carefully trimmed so that it does not interfere. But this must be done very carefully, otherwise the whole embroidery will simply bloom.

In the course of work, stitches will form on the side where the carpet embroidery is going on (wrong side), and loops on the front side, which will create the pattern.

When the thread is over or you need to change the color

The thread ends, and its end has already disappeared in the handle of the needle. In this case, you need to do the following:

  • we make a few more stitches, after which we pull the thread out of the needle, firmly pressing the last stitch with your finger;
  • we cut the thread very close to the fabric, but so that the stitch does not bloom;
  • We fix the end of the thread with textile glue.

If you need to move to another section of embroidery, even next to it, you do not need to make a large stitch. We cut the thread and start a new section from the beginning.

Filling in areas of the drawing

It is best to start embroidery with large elements, then move on to small details and other elements of carpet coloring with threads.

We select one element, first we embroider its outline with a needle stitch by stitch, and then we begin to gradually fill the entire area, like a coloring book. To do this, you can use a circular direction of movement, or you can go with lines, you can also combine the technique of making stitches. On the video master class, you can take a closer look at the embroidery process.

When embroidering straight lines with a needle, you need to go through two rows of stitches to make the line more even and clear.

As you can see, embroidery with such carpet technique using a special needle contains absolutely no difficulties. To avoid difficulties while embroidering, take note of some recommendations:

The final stage

That's all, our carpet embroidery is ready, it remains only to put it in order.

Add a little shampoo to warm water and rinse in it. finished work. Strong detergents may adversely affect the threads.

After that, lay the product on a flat surface and leave to dry completely.

If during work the fabric is torn from the hoop, it is necessary to smooth it out a little with a slightly heated iron from the wrong side of the work.

Knot embroidery in carpet technique - master class

Now on sale there are whole sets for embroidery in carpet technique. Such a set is suitable for beginners, and will also be just a great gift for those who are fond of needlework. Carpet technique kits allow you to make original rug, tapestry or pillow with your own hands. As a rule, the kits already include:

  • base fabric,
  • cut pieces of yarn of the required length, sorted by color;
  • special hook (but not always);
  • diagram.

It remains only to start embroidering as soon as possible.

But, such sets have one drawback - the high cost. You can save money if you buy canvas and yarn separately. In this case, you will need to perform a series preparatory work(cutting and selection of yarn colors, selection and drawing a pattern on the base). Of course, this will take some time, but it is not so difficult to do it. Which way to choose is up to you to decide, just like the result, it will depend only on your imagination and diligence.

For work you will need:

  • a ready-made kit for embroidery in carpet technique or canvas with a large cell or stramin;
  • leftover yarn. Even the smallest balls will fit here. The yarn will need to be cut into strips up to 10 cm long, depending on what length of pile you want to get;
  • hook for carpet embroidery. It is fashionable to use a regular hook, but it is not very convenient. The hook, which is used in carpet technique, has a special shape that simplifies the process of tying a knot from a thread after it has been pulled through the canvas;
  • embroidery scheme. Here it will be possible to use absolutely any pattern for cross stitch, while the cell of the carpet canvas should be equated with the cell of the regular canvas. When calculating the number of cells, it should be noted that a couple of centimeters should be left at the edges for processing.

Preparing to embroider

First of all, choose the drawing you like, or you can come up with it yourself. It is desirable that the circuit does not contain too small elements, because they will be practically invisible.

As a basis for embroidery, you need to take a special mesh called stramin. It is sold both in needlework stores and in hardware stores. Stramin is a dense canvas with large cells, which is widely used for making tapestry (you can see how it looks in the video).

We draw the base into squares, with sides 10 by 10 cells.

The main tool for embroidering in carpet technique using the knotted method is a special curved hook, which can also be bought in needlework stores.

Other methods of embroidery in carpet technique

Carpet cross stitch

In addition to these basic carpet techniques, the carpet can be simply embroidered, just like tablecloths, shirts, towels, napkins, tapestries are embroidered.

Important points:

  • For embroidery in carpet technique, special canvas needles are used, which are blunt at the tip and have a large eye;
  • The thickness of the needle must match the thickness of the thread;
  • Threads for carpet technology can be very diverse in thickness and characteristics: wool, silk, acrylic, etc.;
  • The main rule when choosing threads: they should lie down in an even layer, filling the background;
  • The thread tension when embroidering should be uniform.

Basic seams of carpet embroidery

Seam "cross"

Seam "elongated cross"

Seam "half-cross"
Perhaps the most famous seam is the "cross". By the way, this seam is the basis for other seams in carpet technology.

First of all, in the direction from left to right, you need to perform a uniform row of stitches, like half a cross. The second half of the cross will be performed in the opposite direction in the same way.

The next type of carpet seam is the “elongated cross”. Pass the working thread at an angle through one vertical and two horizontal threads of the canvas. The order of work, in this case, is as follows: the working thread is laid in the direction of the seam from right to left, then it is covered with stitches in the indicated way in the direction from left to right, and after that comes the second row of stitches, but in the opposite direction.

When making a half-cross stitch, you need to choose a working thread slightly thinner than the warp thread. The working thread is drawn horizontally from right to left, and then stitches are laid over it in the opposite direction.

oblique tapestry stitch(first way)

Oblique tapestry seam (second method method)

Long bias tapestry stitch
" Oblique tapestry seam"Can be done in different ways:

  • an oblique stitch is made through two threads of canvas in width, and one in height, which passes between the other two horizontal threads, but without overlapping them;
  • stitches are laid obliquely through one vertical and one horizontal thread of the canvas, overlapping the first.

By the way, it is the tapestry stitch in various designs that is very similar to the old carpet embroidery.

A little advice: when sewing with a tapestry stitch on the hoop, the thread must be transferred to the front side from the wrong side. And if you embroider without using a hoop, you need to turn the work over when each row ends, and bring the needle out after the last stitch.

To make a “oblique and elongated tapestry stitch”, you need to proceed in the same way as when embroidering a regular one, but take three threads vertically.

It takes quite a bit of effort and patience to create a soft and fluffy rug yourself using the carpet technique. Such an exclusive product will become a wonderful gift loved ones or for many years will delight you. In addition, the carpet embroidery technique makes it possible to get rid of huge amount remnants of yarn, which are probably stored in the bins of every needlewoman idle.

Apply maximum imagination, and then you will get a unique masterpiece created by your own hands.
