How to sew a children's overalls with your own hands? Where to get a pattern? Store clothes are not always suitable for children. For example, my nephew, who is very difficult to find clothes. At 5.5 years old, he is as tall as a 7-year-old child. Therefore, I decided to sew him a winter overall that is warm, comfortable and practical. Since aunt sews with her own hands, then it will be better than purchased.

Advantages baby overalls do it yourself:

  1. originality of the model.

  3. Suits personal preference.
  4. Always made with heart.

See the master class below and you will learn that the pattern of baby overalls is not difficult at all.

  • Fleece fabric (pants length + 20.0 cm.)

  • Lining fabric 25.0 cm.
  • Finishing fabric (cuff width + 2.0 cm.)
  • Reflective tape
  • Sintepon (pants length + 10 cm.)
  • Lightning 40.0 - 50.0 cm.
  • Linen gum
  • Wide elastic = waist circumference
  • Threads in the color of the fabric
  • tailor's chalk
  • Sewing machine
  • Machine needle No. 100

Beginning of work

Cutting preparation

On the front side, check the fabric for defects. Decatenate the fabric with an iron from the wrong side, adding steam. Lay the fabric on a flat surface along the edge with the right sides inward.

Opening of overalls

The jumpsuit consists of the upper part - the bodice and the lower part - the trousers, so first start cutting the trousers, and then the bodice.

Pants cutting

Lay out the pattern pieces on the fabric. If you do not have a finished pattern, then take a look here:

Attention! Try to cut as close to the edge as possible, so you save fabric and get whole shreds for future products.

According to the model on the front halves of the trousers, there are tucks in the knee area. To do this, lengthen the front half along the bottom by 2.0 cm. In the knee area, make horizontal darts, the length of the darts is 8.0 - 10.0 cm. Add 5.0 cm at the waist and hips (if necessary). Measure the circumference of the leg below, taking into account the winter boot, as well as freedom of movement, make these changes to the pattern. Add allowances for the width of the seams along the side, step, middle seams and bottom 1.0 cm, at the waist 0.5 - 0.7 cm.

Cut out the details of the trousers, taking into account the allowances for the seams. According to the details obtained, cut the trousers from the padding polyester.

open bodice

Circle the pattern of the front and back on the fleece, taking into account the pattern or direction of the pile. Don't have a pattern already?! Then watch the video tutorial: The length of the bodice, corresponds to the measurement: the length of the shelf in front from the shoulder to the waist. Deepen armholes and neckline. Add allowances along: side 2.0 cm, shoulder 1.0 cm, bottom 1.0 cm, (you can add 4.0 - 5.0 cm for growth) the center of the shelf 1.0 - 1.5 cm .

Tailoring of trousers

connection with insulation

Transfer the darts to the other half of the trousers and stitch them.

Connect the details of the synthetic winterizer with the details of the main fabric along all sections, departing from the cut 0.5 - 0.7 cm.

To avoid thickening in the knee area, cut out the tucks on the insulation parts along the contour.

Cutting out the lining

Lay the fleece on a flat surface along the edge with the right sides inward, the pile on the fleece should be directed from top to bottom. Lay out the details of the trousers on the fabric, circle with chalk and cut. This way you will get lining details without side seams and darts, which will reduce the thickening of the trousers in the seams. At the bottom of the lining, add 6.0 cm (for allowances and freedom of movement).

Cuffing of the bottom of trousers

Open cuffs

From the main fabric, cut out two rectangles: length \u003d girth of the leg at the bottom + 2.0 cm (for allowances); width = 8.0 - 10.0 cm + 1.0 cm (for allowance).

Cut out similar rectangles from the finishing fabric and synthetic winterizer, but 1.5 - 2.0 cm less in width.

Cuff processing

Connect the details of the cuff to each other along the length on the front side, stepping back from the cut 0.5 - 0.7 cm, while the synthetic winterizer should be inside.

Wrap the resulting cut with reflective tape. If the tape is wide, then cut it in half lengthwise. On the wrong side, draw a center line along the entire length of the tape, for ease of stitching.

Here's what should happen:

Sew the cuffs to the trousers, lay the finishing fastening stitch on the front side, directing the allowance up.

Trouser seams

Stitch the trousers together along the middle seam, leave room for the zipper in front.

Then stitch the crotch seams in one step: starting from the bottom of one leg, through the middle seam and ending at the bottom of the second leg.

Be careful! The horizontal seams on the cuffs should match when sewing, fix them with pins before work.

Tailoring of the bodice

Shoulder seam processing

Armhole and neck edging

To process the sections of the armholes and the neck, you will need a slanting inlay, which can be made from shreds of the main fabric. To do this, fold the fabric at an angle of 45 degrees, it is in this direction that the oblique inlay is cut. What provides it with elasticity, this is especially important when processing convex / concave sections.

Draw strips 3.5 cm wide, length = armhole and neck length.

Trim the cuts. First, sew the bias tape on the wrong side, aligning the right side of the trim with the wrong side of the product. Pull the inlay slightly along the concave lines, the seam width is 0.5 - 0.7 cm.

Then wrap the inlay around the cut on the front side, fold the free cut of the inlay inward and lay a line 0.1 cm along the inlay from the fold.

What will happen in the end:

Process the side seams and the sides of the shelves

Pin the side seams at the bottom of the armholes, machine stitching seam to seam.

Belt Processing

You will learn how to process a belt with an elastic band from my previous master class: A feature of the belt of children's overalls is an indent from the edges of the belt 5.0 cm, where the elastic band is sewn.

Attaching a waistband to trousers

Baste and stitch the waistband to the trousers, stretching the elastic.

Connecting the bodice with trousers

Align the side seams, the center of the back with the middle seam of the trousers, connect the bodice with the trousers with machine stitching.

Lining Processing

Sew the middle seam and then the crotch seams in one go. Iron the seams.

Processing the bottom of the lining of trousers with a cuff

From lining fabric cut out 2 rectangles: width = 20.0 cm + 5.0 cm (for allowances); length = leg girth + 3.0 cm (for allowances).

Stitch the rectangles in width, retreating 1.5 cm from the cut and overcast.

Finish the bottom edges of the cuffs with a closed hem seam, leave holes for the elastic on the seams.

Connecting the cuffs to the lining

Lay the legs of the bodysuit and lining, as well as the cuff, on a flat surface. Determine the stitching level of the cuff to the lining. From the resulting line, add a 1.5 cm allowance down. Cut the leg along the allowance line and align the bottom of the lining.

There are also fur overalls, but they belong to winter season and not for summer. If the child has a good warm Winter Jacket, then you can only attend to the purchase of semi-overalls - these are warm pants with straps, which, in combination with a jacket, are also a convenient option for warm clothes. A pattern for a lining for a fleece or warm overalls for babies from 0 months old, or older children, can be made by hand for free - building it will not be difficult.

Cut and preparation of materials

As for the material that we will use in our work, the choice of it depends entirely on your desire and imagination. The main thing, when choosing a material, is to take into account that we are making a thing for a child, so the following requirements must be presented to the material:

  • The material must be practical.
  • The material must be strong and not wrinkle.
  • The material should not cling to dirt, dust, moisture.

The main canvas should be about sixty or one hundred centimeters in size, the lining should only be created from quilted material of the same size. It is clear that the dimensions for the linings will be chosen almost the same. We also need a little decorative fabric for decoration.

Probably, no problem here, different shreds and strips of such material can definitely be found in the stocks of any woman. You will also need an elastic band of about thirty centimeters in length, a cord of about seventy centimeters, a flat zipper about twenty centimeters long and a spool of strong threads.

The finished pattern can be easily downloaded from the Internet. It needs to be printed on a printer in the size of 1x1, cut out, and then draw the fabric using a paper template. When cutting fabric, keep in mind that you need to leave allowances of 1 cm.

Winter is coming - the time of fun winter fun and outdoor games. What can cause more tenderness in parents than the sight of children squealing with joy, racing along snowy alleys and playing snowballs? However, do not forget that winter is also a cold season, when the likelihood of colds. Therefore, for caring and wise parents winter is an occasion to update and replenish the children's wardrobe, because it often happens that the kids have already grown out of their last year's winter clothes.

Children's jumpsuit with a hood - we meet the winter fully armed

Today we will talk about how to sew a children's jumpsuit with a hood with your own hands. Indeed, any mother will surely be a reason for special pride and tenderness for a child who fearlessly meets winter not bought somewhere in a store or on the market, but sewn by mother's hands, providing the maximum level of comfort and warmth.

Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to be a professional in sewing children's clothes yourself. The main thing you will need is a pattern for a baby romper with a hood, inexpensive materials that are now sold in every fabric store, some cutting and sewing skills and a little free time.

Cutting and material preparation

As for the material that we will use - its choice depends entirely on your desire and imagination. The main thing when choosing is to take into account that we sew for children, so the following requirements are mandatory for the material: it must be practical, strong and, if possible, wrinkle-resistant, and at the same time it must repel dirt, dust and moisture from itself.

The main canvas should be about 60 by 100 centimeters in size, the lining is best made from quilted material of the same size. It is clear that the dimensions of the lining are chosen approximately the same. Also, for decoration, you may need a little decorative fabric, we believe that there should be no problems at all, various shreds and strips of such fabrics can certainly be found in the storerooms of any housewife. You will also need an elastic band about 30 centimeters long, a cord about 70 centimeters, a flat zipper about 20 centimeters long and a spool of strong thread.

You can download the finished pattern at the end of the publication. It is best to print it on a printer in a one-to-one size, cut it out, and already paper templates draw the fabric. When cutting the material, keep in mind that it is necessary to leave allowances of one centimeter.

Let's start sewing

When assembling the jumpsuit, you first need to stitch the middle and shoulder seams on the back. After that, the seam allowances must be ironed. Then we sew a hood along the neck line. Now the sleeves are in turn - we sew them into the armholes. After that, you need to grind the middle seam of the front.

Next, we repeat all these operations for the lining - in fact, we assemble another jumpsuit from it. When the lining is ready, we put it inside the overalls, carefully combine all the seams, cuts of the sleeves and bottom, after which we fasten the lining and measure. At this stage, it will still be possible to change something if it doesn’t turn out quite right (after, of course, you can also fix something, but it will take much more time and work).

Now you need to stitch the side seams into the seams at the sleeves, crotch seams. After that, the allowances in the middle of the front on the front parts of the main and lining fabrics will need to be turned inside out and ironed. At this stage, we sew in a zipper, and now we tuck the upper edges of the braid.

As for the neck, it should be tucked to the wrong side, basted and stitched. Now it remains to thread the cord into the drawstring and fasten the limiters at its ends. We pass the elastic band through the bottom of the sleeve, tighten them and then sew up the hole.

Now we have a hood. On the front and lining fabric, it is necessary to grind the middle seam, align and process the allowances with an iron. Thereafter facial tissue and attach the lining to each other, stitch the edges, iron the hood, turning it to the right side.

It remains to decorate our jumpsuit. For this, an applique from the decorative fabric that we have prepared is well suited. It all depends on your artistic taste and skill, we sew the appliqué on the front part and our jumpsuit baby ready. Now little fidgets are not afraid of winter with its cold weather!

In the wardrobe of almost every baby there is a jumpsuit. It is comfortable to put on and wear. It doesn't restrict movement. They are sewn from light fabrics and quilted with almost weightless fillers. The latter factor makes such clothes more comfortable to wear in the autumn-spring and winter time compared to heavy coats. The pattern will allow you to sew it at home.

Pattern of baby overalls for a newborn

We continue the theme of winter clothes. Below is a pattern of baby overalls for a newborn.

We select fabric

Matter is better to choose durable, waterproof and breathable at the same time. Such fabrics are made on the basis of polyamide.

Beginning of work

Transfer the pattern to the fabric, be sure to take into account the allowances for the seams.

  • on the sides and shoulders - 2 cm each;
  • on the neck, armholes and double elements - 7 mm each;
  • on the front - 3 cm;
  • 1.5 cm is left for processing seams.

Priority of actions

  1. First, pockets are sewn, then the front part is connected to the side ones.
  2. Preparing the collar, stitching the seams on the shoulders.
  3. Baste the collar to the neck, process the clasp.
  4. At the waist, stitch the fabric in the form of a strip in order to insert an elastic band.
  5. Sew on the sleeves.
  6. Sew on bottom.

Overalls are sewn with lining and insulation. Below is a pattern for a height of 110 cm. Usually, such clothes are enough for up to a year, then a larger size is already needed.

Half of the pattern from the back:

From the front, the pattern looks like this:

Cutting and sewing technique

  • Make a drawing on paper, taking into account the size. Cut out the details and transfer to the fabric, immediately marking the allowances.
  • Cut out the details of the sleeves, back and front of the fabric.
  • First, the sleeves are sewn together, trim the bottom.
  • Connect the back and front on the sides and along the inner edge of the legs. Or alternatively, make a zipper on the inside of the pants for easy diaper changing.
  • Connect the sleeves to the main part.
  • Sew on a zipper, Velcro or buttons.
  • Process the seams of the neck, the lines of the connection of the sleeves.

Pattern for overalls from fur

For sewing fur overalls, a base pattern is also used. You can use the drawings that are given above. More often, fur is used to trim the hood, sleeves, and collar.

It's getting colder outside every day. It's time to warm up. Today I want to show you how to sew a children's jumpsuit with your own hands. I sewed this jumpsuit from a ready-made coupon, where the pattern of the right size is already printed. Fabric with a pattern ordered in the store "Bobbin" (patterns on fabric with your prints). Sublimation printing on fabric (I have fleece, you can choose another fabric). The drawing was chosen by my daughter.

This is how the pattern looks on the fabric, the seam allowances are already taken into account (1 cm). Marks are also marked on the fabric. A hood can be ordered instead of a collar.

We cut all the details of the pattern: 2 details of the back, 2 details of the front, 2 details of the sleeves, a collar and 4 details of the cuffs. Cuffs are best sewn from ribana or cashmere. I decided to make a collar from the main fabric, that is, from fleece.

We grind both parts of the back from the wrong side, as shown in the photo below.

We connect the details of the front and back in the shoulder seams.

We straighten the front and back and sew the sleeve into the armhole, combining the marks.

We fold the overalls along the shoulder seams and grind the side seams from the wrong side, including the sleeves and legs (where marked with a dotted line).

Then we sew one of the sides of the collar detail to the neck, connecting the marks.

Clips for fixing the fabric can be.

Let's get to the lightning. For a size of 128-134 cm, the length of the zipper = 60 cm. Fold the collar in half and insert the zipper between the layers of fabric.

We sweep and stitch one of the two sides of the zipper along the entire length.

Before basting the second part of the zipper, it is better to make a protective bar for the zipper. Since I made the cuffs from cashmere, the details of the fleece cuffs remained on the coupon. From one part, I cut 2 parts in the form of a semicircle about 5x8 cm in size.

We put these parts on top of each other with the front sides inward and sew, where it is marked with a dotted line.

We turn this piece right side out and sew it to the second part of the zipper in the appropriate place. Moreover, most of the protective bar will be on the wrong side of the zipper.

Then we sweep the second part of the zipper, also bending the collar in half.

We turn and align the corners of the collar. We fasten the zipper and check that everything is even. If everything is smooth, then we sew (sew in) the zipper.

We bend the second edge of the collar and sew it by hand with a blind seam.

On the front side, at the seam next to the collar, you can lay a straight line.

We fasten the zipper and fasten the bottom with a seam. Cut off the excess length of the zipper.

On the front side, we lay a straight line along the entire length of the zipper, where it is marked with a dotted line.

We sew a step seam.

It remains only to sew the cuffs. We bend the details of the cuffs and sew them into a ring with smaller sides.

We bend the cuffs in a circle so that the seams remain inside.

We insert the cuffs, as shown in the photo below and grind in a circle.

The fleece overalls for the daughter are ready.

Veronica is 7 years old, height 127 cm. I took the pattern of overalls for a height of 134 cm - the size fit perfectly.
