Chapter 2. Educational and educational work with left-handed children of preschool age

2.1 Psychological and pedagogical diagnosis of left-handed children.

When determining left-handedness, right-handedness or two-handedness, additional testing should be carried out. In this case, the following rules must be observed:

Each task is offered to the child in a playful way;

Do not fix his attention on which hand he is using;

Before completing the task, put all items strictly in front of the child.

So, for the diagnosis of left-handedness, we selected a group of 10 people attending (older speech therapy group 03) MDOU No. 7 "Bell". With them we carried out a number of diagnostic methods:

1. Watching children in free activities.

2. Testing #1.

Tests for children of primary preschool age to determine the leading hand.

a) Opening the box.

The child is offered several different small boxes, for example, from under matches (you can paint them in different colors so that the repetition of actions excludes randomness in the assessment of this test).

Task: "Find a match in one of the boxes."

The leading hand is considered to be the hand that performs active actions (opens, closes).

B). Untying knots.

Loosely tie a few knots in advance with a cord of medium thickness.

The leading hand is the one that unties the knot (the other holds the knot).

AT). Lifting an object.

The child is asked to pick up an object lying on the floor. Right-handers very rarely take it with their left hand, left-handers with their right hand.

Tests for middle and older children

A) Interlacing of fingers.

Task: "Quickly, without thinking, interlace the fingers of both hands."

No matter how many times the request is repeated, the thumb of the same hand always appears on top, usually the leading one (right for right-handers and left for left-handers.

B) Crossing arms.

The leading hand is considered to be the hand, the brush of which is first directed to the forearm of the other hand and is on top of it, while the hand of the other hand is under the forearm of the leading hand.

3. Tasks for determining the leading hand (results in Appendix No. 1).

Tasks for determining the leading hand.

Draw what you want

left hand right hand

Draw 10 crosses with a pencil

left hand right hand

Task number 4 (Appendix 2)

Purpose: to develop the accuracy of the movement of the child's hand.

Game progress:

The game starts by drawing paths different shapes; at one end of each path - a car, and at the other - a house. For example, like this:

Then the child is told: “You are the driver, and you need to drive your car to the house. The road you will take is not an easy one. So be careful and careful." The child should use a pencil, without taking his hands off, to “drive” along the bends of the paths. It is better to start with relatively simple ones. In the future, when the child gets used to the game, you can narrow the paths and change the rhythm of the bends.

For example, like this:

As a result, we found 2 left-handed children: Misha V. and Artem G. We conducted individual testing with them.

Task No. 5 (the results are presented in Appendix No. 3)

Leading hand definition

Leading hand

Drawing the same drawings (house, person, car) with the right and left hand

Drawing with a pencil 10 crosses with the right and left hand

Laying out cards, loto (a stack in one hand, cards are laid out with the other)

Untying 3-4 knots previously tied on a cord

Stringing 5-10 buttons with different holes on a cord

Throwing a tennis ball at a target on the floor or wall (repeat several times)

Unscrewing and tightening the lids on 3-4 jars

Unscrewing and tightening a nut from a children's designer with a wrench

Folding a pattern (mosaics, split pictures, etc.)

Folding a figure out of cubes

Transferring water from one bottle with a narrow neck to another

Button fastening and unbuttoning, zippers

Folding small parts (buttons, beads) into a long cylinder

Winding thread on a spool or winding thread into a ball

The presence of left-handed relatives in the family (parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents)

Task number 6 Drawing with the right and left hand. (Appendix No. 4.)

Thus, individual testing and analysis of children's work confirmed the left-handedness of Misha V. and Artem G. Recommendations were developed for them on organizing classes, individual work, and advice to parents was drawn up.

These recommendations must be followed from the initial moment of learning to write, however, if this is not done in time, then these tips should be used in a soft corrective work with left-handed children who already know how to write.

Landing when writing: With proper seating, left-handed children should sit straight without touching the table with their chests. The legs of the whole foot are on the floor on a stand, the head is slightly tilted to the right. In the classroom at the desk left-handed child should always sit to the left of his neighbor so that the right hand of the neighbor on the desk does not interfere with him when writing. The table lamp is located to the right of the child.

Hand position:Hands should lie on the table so that the elbow of the left hand protrudes slightly beyond the edge of the table, so that the left hand moves freely along the line from top to bottom, and the right hand lies on the table and holds the sheet.

Hand position: The left hand should be mostly facing the table surface. The fulcrum of the slightly bent little finger and the lower part of the palm serve as fulcrum for the brush.

Handle Grip Techniques: The pen is placed on the middle finger, on its upper nail part. The nail phalanx of the thumb holds the handle, and the index finger is easily placed on top of the handle at a distance

1.5 - 2 cm from the writing ball and controls the movement of the fingers. In the process of writing, movement occurs from left to right (the direction of the pen is to the left, and the movement of the fingers is to the right).

Notebook orientation: The notebook lies with an inclination to the right so that the lower right corner of the page on which the child writes is directed towards the middle of his chest. It is difficult for a left-handed child to navigate in a notebook, in a line. He cannot immediately determine the side from which to start writing, he confuses directions. In such cases left side sheets should be marked with a colored pencil.

How parents should behave with a left-handed child:

Given the increased emotionality and extreme impressionability of such a child, be sensitive and friendly with him.

Create a favorable climate for him in the family.

Take for granted the peculiarity of the child and do not try to turn him into a “right-hander”, explaining to everyone and to him that there are a lot of “left-handed” people and this is also a kind of norm.

Do not make excessive demands on him and do not oppose him to other, ordinary children.

In no case should a child be taught to read, write and foreign languages before school, i.e. where failures await him, reducing the level of self-esteem of the baby.

Love him the way he is.

Wconclusion

Having studied the psychological and pedagogical literature on this issue, we learned and became convinced that left-handedness is a kind of norm.

As we found out, left-handed children are a heterogeneous group. Therefore, the approach to each child should be individual. The manifestation of certain developmental disorders is associated with the predominance of any factor in the development of left-handedness. In any case, the parents of a left-handed child should not be wary, much less negative, about left-handedness.

The inexpediency and perniciousness of relearning has a great influence on the development of abilities in a child, since it is precisely this that can cause the emergence of neuroses.The most common neurotic symptoms in retrained left-handed people are: sleep disturbance, appetite, headaches, abdominal pain, fears, stuttering, tics, obsessive movements, motion sickness in transport, lethargy, lethargy, and a sharp change in mood.

So, the neuroses that occur in left-handed children during retraining are serious diseases, the manifestations of which must be noticed in time in order to begin treatment without delay.

Constant support, approval, exclusion of ridicule, resentment, discontent help to avoid the main thing that leads to neurosis - feelings of failure, failure.

It is quite obvious that in no way should the left-handedness of the child be emphasized and no attempts should be made to change anything. Just calmly explain to the child that this is a kind of norm.

Along with the opinion about the significant difficulties in the development of left-handed children, there is also a directly opposite idea about the unique abilities of left-handed people. It is believed that left-handed children are creative, emotional.

The main thing is to instill in the child confidence in his usefulness, "normality", to try, perhaps, to find the advantages of his left-handedness. You need to perceive the child as he is, and then left-handedness will not become a problem.

A left-handed child in a right-handed world.

  • Completed by: teacher of technology Safronov A.P. MKOU "Ust-Volchikhinsky secondary school

From Webster's Dictionary, the meaning of the word left-handed:

  • marked by clumsiness and inability;
  • showing insincerity or evasiveness, that is, indirect, speaking not what he thinks;
  • prone to intrigue or malicious undertakings, evil, vile.
  • The French word gauche - left - also means clumsy, awkward, dishonest.

    The Italian word manka means not only leftist, but also spoiled, defective, deceitful.

    The meaning of the German word link is left, and the derivative

    from him linkisem - awkward, clumsy;

    The Latin word sinister is left, pernicious.

It is difficult for the right-handed majority of mankind to imagine what problems left-handers face in Everyday life. Almost all household items, professional tools, appliances are adapted to operate with the right hand. Every left-hander has to adapt to this "right" world, while experiencing discomfort.

Each hemisphere is responsible for its own

information processing type:

Right - "figurative"

hemisphere, processes

information instantly

taking it as

holistic image;

Left - "logical" -

processes information sequentially, sorting through

all possible options

and he has other emotional

reactions to this information.

Features of thinking left-handers and right-handers

Left hemisphere

1.Controls the right

side of the body.

2. Responsible for the development of speech.

3. Appreciated for the oral acquisition of foreign languages.

4. Responsible for logical thinking.

5. Responsible for literacy.

6. Responsible for the ability to calculate.

Right hemisphere

1.Controls the left side of the body.

2. Responsible for the formation of visual images.

3. Provides orientation in space.

4. Responsible for reading ability.

5. Responsible for musical abilities.

6. Responsible for the ability to draw.

7. Bears most of the responsibility for human emotions.

Psychological features

left-handed children:

  • Left-handers have excellent spatial orientation, "body sense", excellent coordination of movements, are more mobile than right-handers;
  • They are more successful in the study of geometry due to its spatial nature, but they have problems with arithmetic calculation, because. these actions require logic, consistent thinking, and this is a function of the left hemisphere;
  • They do an excellent job with various tasks for generalization, but "grasping" a holistic image of the image instead of its phased analysis prevents them from mastering reading;
  • It is more difficult for left-handers to master literate oral and written speech (their ability to actively reproduce speech is much less pronounced than to understand words);
  • They perform poorly in activities that require constant self-control;
  • More (than right-handers) are emotional, impressionable and vulnerable, and therefore they can more often feel resentment, anger, be irritable, especially
  • in a situation of difficulties that they often encounter;

  • Left-handers are endowed with a rich imagination, prone to fantasizing;
  • Sometimes in left-handers you can notice negligence and carelessness when drawing, sculpting and other activities. It is strongly not recommended to stop this, because the majority of left-handers are creative people, and, as you know, they are characterized by some negligence;

It is more difficult for a left-handed child to master the technique of writing letters and all known types of needlework, and this can cause difficulties at school. These difficulties are often resolved naturally or with the help of a trained teacher. At present, quite a lot of attention is being paid to this problem: methods for teaching writing with the left hand are being compiled, the production of special copybooks is being established, special literature is being published for teachers and parents, but practically nothing is being done to teach a left-hander to sew a button or learn to plan.

If you want to understand what life is like for left-handed people, try turning all the objects over, as if the other way around. Most likely you will experience great difficulty in handling the simplest things.

The complexity of the situation is exacerbated by the fact that there are no teaching methods. The issue of raising such children is discussed more in the literature, but there are no specific developments of practical methods for labor training.

But first I want to offer you a comparative table made by the computer method of mirroring an object, which gives a visual representation of how a right-handed and left-handed person sees the embroidery process and performs it.

There is a need for an individual approach to teaching left-handed students in technology lessons. Therefore, it is advisable to modify the sawing technique that exists for “right-handers” into a special training system for “left-handers”, taking into account their differences from each other.

All of the above, in my opinion, convinces that one should not try to change nature in a way that is convenient for teachers and parents. Probably, in this situation, the best way out is to adapt to the characteristics of the left-handed child yourself and help him adapt to the right-oriented world. Unfortunately, in our country there is still no scientifically developed methodology for teaching left-handed children to write, and there is no methodology for their work in labor lessons (after all, he even needs other scissors). Therefore, our left-handers learn to perform all educational actions in the same way as right-handers. Nevertheless, there are a number of recommendations, which, by implementing in the practice of schooling, can make life easier for such children:

Special materials for left-handed children

Sharpeners with anti-clockwise thread

Scissors, in which the blade is located on the other side, handles with recesses for the fingers of the left hand

Rulers with numbers in reverse order.

Keyboard for computer

It is necessary to help the left-hander organize his workplace, change the slope of the notebook when writing, the position of the forearms, take the pen correctly, make sure that the light falls on the right;

right-hand writing should not be required from left-handed people, it will be more appropriate for them to write straight;

any motor actions must be decomposed into elements, explaining step by step, each element must be performed consciously;

it is advisable to perform special exercises, play games with the child that develop visual perception and hand-eye coordination;

it is necessary to work with the parents of a left-handed child, explaining to them the causes and consequences of the characteristics of their son / daughter, advising how to help the child overcome those objective difficulties that already exist and maintain the mental and physical health of the child;

never show a negative attitude towards left-handedness, use the characteristics of such a child in the classroom to instill in children respect for the individual characteristics of each person, tolerance towards the manifestation of properties that are not characteristic of the majority.

How to help a left-handed child

It is not worth emphasizing this peculiarity of it, worrying (anxiety of adults is always transmitted to the child) and worrying in advance because of some failures that may arise. It is important to agree with the baby that he will always use only his left hand for writing and drawing (do not shift the pen from one hand to another, it is better to take a break if the hand gets tired quickly). In order for him not to have problems in learning to write in the future, you need to teach him to sit at the table correctly, hold a pen and a notebook even before school (after 5 years). For the correct posture when writing, you must:

  • sit straight;
  • lean back on the back of a chair;
  • do not touch the table with your chest;
  • keep your legs straight, put your feet on the floor or stand;
  • keep the torso, head, shoulders straight;
  • rest both hands in the forearm on the edge of the table, while the elbows should protrude beyond the edge.

Tips for parents of left-handed children:

1. Never and under no circumstances should adults show a child a negative attitude towards left-handedness.

2. It should be remembered that left-handedness is an individual variant of the norm, therefore, the difficulties that arise in left-handed children are most often not associated with this phenomenon. Any other child can have the same problems.

3. You should not even try to teach a left-handed child to work with his right hand, and even more so, insist on it. Retraining can lead to serious health problems.

4. It is advisable to determine the leading hand at 4-4.5 years.

5. A left-handed child needs special attention and approach, but not because he is left-handed, but because every child is unique and inimitable.

History knows great amount brilliant people who were left-handed, and perhaps, thanks to this particular feature, they created their eternal masterpieces.

Perhaps our pupils have hidden talents that they need to help develop.

If the child is left-handed, then we simply need to know the psychological and other characteristics of such children. This will allow us to properly educate him, to train him, without instilling in the child the “left-handed” complex.

Why is this hand right and this left? They are both fighting. Vova 3 years old "My child is left-handed"

Left-handedness is a sign indicating that the child writes with his left hand. Types of left-handedness: 1. Genetic, inherited. 2. Pathological, is a consequence of brain damage in the process prenatal development(MMD), or at birth. 3. Social, when forced relearning occurs.

Left-handedness is a sign indicating left lateral preferences in the motor (arms, legs) and sensory spheres (eyes, ears). A very special organization nervous system person, and therefore all mental processes and above all perception. Often accompanied by increased emotionality. May be absolute, or may be predominant (only in 3 areas). Children need to be helped to adapt to the “right brain world”; take care of the features that make them unique and highly creative Parental demands can lead to stuttering and allergic reactions

If a child has the same use of the right and left hand, he is considered "two-handed" or ambidextrous.

Do not teach reading, writing, foreign language, i.e. where failures await him, reducing self-esteem In preparation for learning to read and write, help the child choose the position of the hand while writing: 1. The hand is in a position similar to how it is written with the right hand (subline, and the sheet is located along the left hand with an inclination to the right); 2. The brush is turned to the chest of the writer. The hand and pen is above the line, the sheet is tilted to the left. Letters can be written vertically or tilted to the left.

CONTRAINDICATED - require a continuous letter; - overload must not be allowed; - overwork.

Retraining left-handed children can lead to: neurotic reactions: - nocturnal enuresis- tics - stuttering - fears - obsessive movements can form a feeling of inferiority inferiority complex inability to communicate with people

The phenomenon of specularity is associated with the functioning of the insufficiency of the corpus callosum. You can develop the corpus callosum with the help of: kinesiology exercises (the complete disappearance of this phenomenon is usually observed by the age of 10); educational games: riddles; Find differences; development games fine motor skills; constructors; modeling; application.

Kinesiology exercises for the adaptation of a left-handed child to school 1. Put a clean sheet on the table. Take a pencil in both hands. Start drawing with both hands at the same time mirror-symmetrical drawings, letters. As you complete the task, feel your eyes and hands relax. When the activity of both hemispheres is synchronized, the efficiency of the entire brain increases. 2. Put your palms on the table. Raise your fingers one at a time (starting with the little finger). First on one hand, then on the other, then on both. Repeat the exercise in reverse order.

3. Straighten your hand, squeeze your fingers tightly and alternately press them first to the third joints, then to the plane of the palm. The exercise is performed first with one, then with the other. 4. Squeeze your fingers into a fist and rotate the brush in different directions. The exercise is performed with one, then the other hand. 5.Pinch the pencil between your middle and index fingers. Bend and unbend these fingers so that the pencil does not fall below the thumb.

6. Put 10-15 sticks on the table. It is necessary to gather all the pencils into a fist with one hand, taking one at a time. Then put the pencils one by one on the table. 7. Make 2 walnuts in a circular motion in each palm. 8. Connect your hands at eye level with a house. Tilt your head towards your right shoulder. Draw in the air with joined hands for the entire possible wingspan horizontal 8. repeat in the other direction, resting your head on your left shoulder.

How to behave to parents with a left-handed child Considering the increased emotionality and impressionability of the child, be sensitive, friendly with him. Create a favorable climate in the family. Do not fight with him because of stubbornness, but try to veil the game. Take for granted the peculiarity of the child. Praise small successes and encourage artistic and musical gifts, but don't try to make him a child prodigy. Try to surprise your baby more often. Do not make excessive demands on him and do not oppose him to others.

Remember! The child should not feel negative about left-handedness, and believe that he is very capable.

Relevance

The number of left-handed people in the world has a positive trend. The increase in the number of left-handed students actualizes the need for special work to adapt them to the right-handed world. It is especially acute in first-graders, who are still being taught according to methods oriented towards right-handed schoolchildren.

Basic concepts

left-handedness- dominance of the left hand, which becomes the leading one primarily due to the innate dominance of the right hemisphere of the brain. (Big Psychological Encyclopedia)

left-handedness- this is not just a preference for the left hand, but also a completely different distribution of functions between the hemispheres of the brain. (L. S. Slavina)

  • Genetic - left-handed parent;
  • compensatory - damage to the left hemisphere of the brain;
  • forced - trauma of the right hand, imitation of adults;
  • hidden - a change in the dominant hemisphere.

  • Speech center in the left hemisphere;
  • speech center in the right hemisphere;
  • center of speech in both hemispheres.

  • Clap your hands (leading hand on top);
  • stroke the toy (stroking the leading hand);
  • find a match in one of the boxes (the leading hand opens and closes the box);
  • wipe the chalkboard with a rag (holds the rag and wipes the leading hand);

About relearning

At the 1st All-Union Seminar in 1985 “Protection of the health of left-handed children”, the following decisions were made:

  • refuse to retrain left-handed children;
  • develop guidelines for the educational work of left-handers;
  • identify left-handedness during medical examination of children with entering data on this in outpatient cards;
  • "double" retraining after is categorically contraindicated.

  • Hysterical nerve.
  • neurotic tics.
  • Neurotic stuttering.
  • Enuresis.
  • Nervousness of obsessive states.
  • Asthenic nerve.

  • Do not retrain a left-handed child.
  • Left-handedness is the dignity of the child, its uniqueness and originality.
  • Education should be brighter and more colorful.
  • A left-handed child is vulnerable, requires a careful, attentive and kind attitude.
  • It is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of development.

  • It is forbidden to ask to rewrite, redraw.
  • While doing homework observe the principle of gradual and moderate loading.
  • It is forbidden to demand a right-angled and continuous letter.
  • If you have difficulties in learning, you need to contact specialists.

Conclusion

Having examined the characteristics of left-handed children, we found out that the child needs pedagogical support throughout the entire education.

It is important that the child sees the importance and understanding of his left-handedness on the part of adults.
