Greetings to all gathered on the blog! Many of us love to give gifts (I think you, too). But ordinary gifts quickly get bored and want something warmer, sincere, attractive. One of these gifts are do-it-yourself photo frames, which we will make today in large quantities

I decided to write this post because I made my first soft photo frame a long time ago, and just recently I repeated the experiment and I was more than pleased with the result. Today I will share with you the secrets of creating it, and also show you what other types of photo frames you can make yourself using improvised materials.

How to make photo frames with your own hands: master classes

Children's photo frame "Totoro" ("Photo Frame")

Let's start with a cute children's photo frame inspired by the wonderful anime "My Neighbor Totoro" (if you haven't watched it, be sure to check it out, you won't regret it).

You will need:

  • soft stretchy fabric (fleece (example - green fabric in the photo), minky fleece, velsoft, tight jersey etc.)
  • thin fabric for the heel (cotton, fleece, etc.)
  • synthetic winterizer (cloth)
  • plastic base (from under equipment, sweets, etc.)
  • threads, needles, scissors, accessories for decoration.

There should be enough plastic base to make three parts the size of the desired photo frame.

First of all, you will need to cut out the plastic base (round, square, triangular - whichever you like best) similarly to that shown in the photo. In this case, it's a flat donut. Cut out several details from the synthetic winterizer of the same shape. I will show a master class on the example of a circle.

You will also need 1 more piece of soft, stretchy fabric, but with large seam allowances.

Attention! Do not save fabric on allowances, they should be about 2/3 from the width of the ring so that the fabric is evenly distributed at the back.

We immediately proceed to the most important part - stitching the front. To do this, make small cuts on the inside of the circle (near the allowances) and sew the edges, pulling them with threads to each other as close as possible. (Specially chose a contrasting thread color to make it noticeable).

Advice. If you have chosen a rectangular shape, then you are unlikely to need incisions, you can try to make them without them.

This is what the ring looks like from the front. If desired, you can hide the seams at the back with an overlay made of fine fabric(I'll show you how to do this a little later.)

Set the ring aside. Cut out two circles from thin fabric and plastic (one is not needed yet). Make fabric circles a millimeter or two larger than plastic ones.

Sew the fabric circles, leaving room to turn inside out and insert the plastic base.

After sewing, turn the fabric part inside out, insert a plastic circle there and sew the remaining hole.

We received the back of the photo frame.

If desired, sew a loop of thread or ribbon into it so that you can hang the photo frame on the wall.

This is how I camouflaged the back of the fluffy bagel. To do this, I cut out the same element from a thin fabric as from a stretch one, but now I made the seam allowances smaller and hid them inside, sewing the masking with a blind seam. Sew the back with the same seam.

Sew the back so that in the future you can insert the last circle of plastic and a photo from above.

Try to make small stitches so that they are not noticeable after stitching the parts.

Attached heel:

Front view:

Now insert the plastic circle into the photo frame.

Ready! It remains only to insert beautiful photo and add decor)

In my case, this is a themed nigella made of wool, with felt leaves sewn on. Photo corresponding You can see the work in more detail in this section (in the "Souvenirs" tab).

Great minky fleece you can buy in this store. In our woven stores, I have not seen this, and if you want to make a thing no worse than a purchased one, then this particular material will be very useful to you (the seller is verified, I ordered from him more than once).

DIY photo frames made of cardboard and paper

The method described above is far from the easiest of the possible methods for creating a photo frame. Now you will be convinced of this

Photo frame made of ... box lids

In fact, regular cardboard can also be used if it is folded into the shape of such a lid. As you can see, the creation process is simple: just take the lid and cover it with pretty scrapbooking paper.

It is convenient to fasten such frames together, as a result of which a whole set is formed. They can be glued together to get a panel. It turns out a great option for both children and adults.

Cardboard and clothespins

These two elements are needed for the following kind photo frames. Cut out a circle similar to what we did in the first master class and glue clothespins around it. We get a simple frame for several photos.

Using fabric and thread

In continuation of the first master class. Here I have included all those frames that can be knitted or sewn (in a pinch, use ideas for decoration).

knitted

A cute idea for a photo frame in the form of a flower, and it’s convenient to make such frames for several photos at once. The photo can simply be glued on the back, covering it with some dense material.

From threads

Everything is simpler here: take a frame, threads and glue and wrap the first one, fixing it along the way. Thus, it is easy to turn even very large frames into a work of art.

Shabby chic style

It is very similar in the way of creation to the very first one, with the exception of a couple of differences: here pressed cardboard is taken as the basis (I think you can also take a ready-made frame of a simple shape) and this souvenir has a leg, not a loop mount.

Felt

Take a simple wooden frame as a base and decorate it with felt flowers. By the way, about creating flowers (including from ribbons and paper), you can read other articles on my blog.

From improvised materials or how to decorate a photo frame

walnut

An interesting idea is to use a pecan (if I call it correctly) for finishing. In our area, it is quite possible to replace ordinary walnuts.

Traffic jam!

For the next two types, you will need a lot of wine bottle caps. In the first case, it is proposed to prime a simple wooden photo frame, and then cut floral patterns from corks.

But in the torus, everything is much simpler - you just need to glue the corks along the edge. A great option for a present, say, to dad on February 23.

Polymer clay and little things

Well sculpt from polymer clay? Or just a lot of beads, buttons, etc. accumulated at home? Then feel free to use them - stick to a frame of a simple shape.

The same applies to stones, shells, etc.

nature style

Roughly speaking, to do this beautiful frame, you will need one long log. It is quite possible to build this at home, if you dry the piece of wood before that.

Ice cream sticks

The hardest part is keeping them together. You can do this with glue, thread, or a dense base.

Gypsum castings

Find suitable shape and plaster. Somehow, my brother experimented with a plaster panel - it turned out quite well, but it stood for a long time.

From thermobeads

I don’t know exactly their scientific name, but if you put them on a special surface and then iron them, you get a dense canvas. You can see an example of a funny frame made in this way below.

On this, dear friends, I finish this great review of various kinds of photo frames. I think you found what you were looking for, if not, write in the comments. And share with your friends not only cool handmade gifts, but also useful information using social media buttons. Goodbye!

Sincerely, Anastasia Skoreva

When you are engaged in cardboard creativity, sooner or later the question will certainly arise, how to make a photo frame out of cardboard with your own hands. We have already touched on this topic more than once in our cardboard workshop, but it would be premature to consider it exhausted.

Today we bring to your attention another version of a photo frame made of cardboard using the 3D appliqué technique. It will be a real boyish frame in the form of a car, and in a desktop version.

Such a photo frame can be made with children, especially since the presence of templates will greatly facilitate the process.

Materials and tools:

office paper(for template printing);

microcorrugated cardboard 1.5 mm thick, cardboard for children's creativity or thick paper;

standard (clerical) knife or scissors;

creasing tool;

double-sided tape (for attaching templates to cardboard);

glue "Moment Crystal";

acrylic paints (optional)

Download templates for making a photo frame in the desired format:

Our photo frame "Car" is made of microcorrugated cardboard (its thickness is 1.5 mm). This cardboard is quite easy to cut, even small details can be cut out.

And microcorrugated cardboard itself is quite an affordable material: you can use used pastry boxes, for example, or buy sheet cardboard at a factory or in creative stores.

But if you wish, you can replace corrugated cardboard with cardboard for children's creativity (white or color) or thick paper (it is better if the density is above 200 g / m²). True, in this case, the photo frame will turn out to be not so voluminous, but this is not critical. The main thing is that its functionality will not suffer from this.

By the way, when using thin cardboard, you can add extra volume by lifting the layers with double-sided foam tape or cardboard spacers (see example).

The principle of manufacturing this type of photo frame from cardboard is extremely simple: we cut out several layers of parts according to the templates and then glue all the layers one by one.

To cut parts, use a standard (clerical) knife.

At the same time, it is very convenient to use punches of different diameters to cut out round headlight parts (see example). Or for such small things, you can take thin cardboard and cut it out with scissors and / or a hole punch.

As a result, the product acquires relief and volume. Looks very impressive and realistic!

When viewed from afar, it may even seem that this is a real three-dimensional model, until you look from the side. Such is the optical illusion.

Since we have a desktop photo frame, we need to make a special support.

It can also be made from cardboard. To do this, you need to prepare 2 parts: one is glued to the back side of the frame, the other (part P-1) is inserted into the first.

support detail P-1 it is necessary to pre-punched (for example, with the tip of a compass, the end of scissors or a special creasing tool) so that the fold lines are accurate and accurate.

Pay attention to the direction of the lines on the wrong side of the corrugated board. When cutting parts, it is desirable to observe approximately this direction.

When gluing the fixing part of the support, I recommend doing the following:

  • mark with a pencil the place of attachment of the fixing part of the support (consisting of elements P-2, P-3 And P-4); use a special template for gluing parts for this P-2, P-3, P-4;
  • assemble the entire structure of the fixing part of the support and apply glue to the elements P-3 And P-4;
  • attach the assembled support to the back side of the photo frame and, placing the entire structure on the table, determine a stable position, then press the fixing part and wait for the glue to dry.

This photo frame is easy to disassemble and assemble. This means that it is convenient to transport it if necessary or pack it in a box to present it as a handmade gift.

Coloring a photo frame made of cardboard

The easiest way to do this is before gluing, when each part can be painted separately.

For corrugated cardboard, use acrylic paints (you can spray). At the same time, it is enough to apply them to the details of the lower layers only on visible areas.

Alternatively, you can use colored thin cardboard, and the question of coloring will disappear by itself.

And you can leave the frame in natural cardboard colors. This, as they say, is a matter of taste.

So, our photo frame is ready. It remains only to insert a photo size 6×4 cm. For example, like this:

That's actually the whole wisdom of how to make an original photo frame out of cardboard with your own hands.

If you know how to draw, I think you can easily draw an interesting layout and divide it into layers according to the same principle.

Or you can find a suitable picture on the net and, based on it, prepare templates in a graphics editor or with a freehand pencil.

These photo frames work great desktop, and wall execution. And in the second case, make whole thematic collages from photo frames. For example, rocket-space composition.

Or here is a castle made of cardboard for 11 photos 9×13 And 10×15 cm:

You can insert photos of all family members into the frames - you get a kind of family castle, an alternative to the family tree. This is a worthy decoration for a child's room, and maybe not only a nursery...

In addition, a cardboard castle with no less success can serve information stand in kindergarten or primary school. The size of the frames allows you to place both photos and leaflets with useful information in them.

And the stand itself will not get lost on the wall of a large room, its dimensions: 80×86 cm.

A great budget alternative to factory made plastic stands or the usual boring bulletin boards. Can you imagine the impressions of the children? ..

Of course, even we would not undertake to make such a large-scale product from scratch. But for this cardboard castle, we have , drawn and prepared for convenient use by our team.

Templates are no problem! In fact, making a castle is no more difficult than a “Car” photo frame, just more details.

Do you need a new original stand or a collage of photo frames (for example, as a birthday present)? Order templates in the KARTONKINO Store.

And that's all we have for now. See you soon in KARTONKINO!

Probably each of us has photos that we want to keep forever. It is for such photos that you can make a beautiful photo frame with your own hands.

You can decorate your home with a handmade frame or just give it to loved ones.

DIY children's photo frame

Such a thing as a do-it-yourself desktop photo frame is easy to make. Craftsmen make frames from literally everything. The creative process uses the most different materials: cardboard, wood, gypsum, strong thread (twine), fabric, braid. Shells, shards of glass or mirrors. Everything is used, even brushwood, sushi sticks, toothpicks, matches, tree bark. A masterpiece can be created using beads, beads and even banal buttons.

The photo below shows the components that a photo frame usually consists of:

In order for the photo frame to stand and not fall, it is necessary to provide for the presence of a stand (in Figure 1, the extreme right). This is the sheet to which the tongue is attached. shaped like Men's Tie. This tongue can be bent and put the frame on the table. Or folded, then the frame can be laid horizontally or hung on the wall.

Making a photo frame from cardboard:

  1. We decide on the size. Photos usually have certain dimensions. We take this into account and add a couple of cm to the width of the frame. And we make a blank, for example, 23x18 cm. The "window" will be 14.7 * 9.7 cm.

  1. Cut out the blank for the stand. It is due to this part that the frame will stand, and not lie. These two blanks need to be connected to fabric or leather at a distance of about 0.5 cm. Due to this, the stand will bend:

  1. According to the existing patterns, we make "layers" of the photo frame. The design can be simplified: for example, do not put glass, do not fix the photo with clips.
  2. The front side can be made of cardboard and decorated to your liking: glue a synthetic winterizer, a layer of cardboard and cover with a cloth or wrapping paper. Stick flowers, beads or even stationery, as in the photo:

But it is better to see once than to read 100 times. Who loves the video, here is a master class on making a desktop frame:
