Maslenitsa is an ancient Slavic holiday with numerous customs, which has come down to our days through the centuries.
Maslenitsa is the most cheerful wild holiday on which we see off winter and meet spring.
So the children and I arranged a wide festivity, designed a themed corner of pancakes, which the children baked with their parents at home. Each child was happy to treat his friends with pancakes, which he personally made. We just held a competition for the most delicious pancakes. Each child was a winner in a specific category:

- thinnest pancakes
- the most openwork pancakes
- the most oily pancakes
- the most fragrant pancakes
- the most curly pancakes

The disrespect of the son-in-law for this event was considered a dishonor and insult, and was the reason for the eternal enmity between him and the mother-in-law.

The last day is the most cheerful and wild, despite the fact that it was called "Forgiveness Day". People went from yard to yard, asking each other for forgiveness.

The Shrovetide complex included such entertainments as skiing from the mountains, sleigh rides, various rites of honoring the newlyweds, fist fights, processions of mummers.

A bunched broom, that is, decorated with bows, is one of the Shrovetide attributes-symbols. Such brooms were put on Maslenitsa in villages in the Yaroslavl region. On the very first day of the festive week, meeting Maslenitsa, a bunched broom was decorated in every house. Most of the time it was the kids.

Colored rags were hung on a birch broom, paper roses and candy wrapper bows were tied. A bunched broom was put on a stick and stuck into a snowdrift in front of the house. And all week elegant brooms, like flowering trees, decorated the festive street. And on Sunday, when they were going to burn Maslenitsa, they took the brooms with them and threw them into the common fire. So it was before.

But this forgotten custom can come to life even now, in a modern city. When the guys dress up bunched brooms with the whole class and put them in the school yard, all the passers-by smile, realizing immediately that Maslenitsa has come. What symbolism does the bunched broom carry?

The children learn about this themselves in our classes. A broom sweeps rubbish out of the house, they plow “teneto” - cobwebs from the walls and ceiling, and when it flies around, it will be bare - “lies under the threshold”: they wipe their feet on it. Or become a broom to sweep the trash in the yard.

So in everyday life the broom plays a cleansing role. For this he is respected in the house: he always stands in one place, in a designated corner. Some housewives put a broom on the butt, with branches up: they believe that it drives away evil spirits. The broom also has other work - also useful, cleansing.

Birch broom in the bath - "naked amusement", a cure for the disease. Riddles and proverbs are composed about a broom. They say: “Do not step over a broom”, “Do not sweep the house with two brooms - you will sweep away all the wealth.”

All these meanings of the broom made it one of the symbols of Maslenitsa. Putting a decorated broom on a high snowdrift, closer to the sun, people both scared away the hostile forces of winter darkness and called for spring warmth - at the same time.

Throwing last year's broom into the Maslenitsa bonfire, as if they were destroying everything that had become obsolete in nature, helping to renew it. The coming spring and summer will bring fresh young greens, new brooms will grow on birch trees. Nature will be reborn again, repeating its cycle on earth.

Dear colleagues, I want to tell you how our kindergarten introduces children to the origins of Russian folk culture. It has become a tradition to celebrate such a holiday as PANCAKE WEEK. And we celebrate it, as it should be in Russia, widely! All week long fun entertainment. But with special impatience, the children are waiting for the last day - " SEEING OFF THE SHIRT".

On this day, many parents of our pupils bring all sorts of different pancakes to treat the children and employees. Many employees also keep up and treat colleagues and children with their pancakes with various fillings. In general, after a hearty breakfast, we all go out together for the festivities!
