Thermal underwear for women. Rating of the best thermal underwear for our harsh winter. What is thermal underwear made of?

Thermal underwear is one of the main elements in clothing for sports and outdoor activities, designed to control your heat transfer. How well thermal underwear is chosen largely determines how comfortable you will be during sports, and hence what results you can achieve.

Together with an AlpIndustry expert Yura Serebryakov Let's figure out how to choose thermal underwear that suits your conditions.

The principle of layering in clothing

In clothing for sports and outdoor activities, it is customary to adhere to the principle of layering, or, in other words, the concept of three layers. Thermal underwear is the first, base layer and is designed to control heat transfer. Thermal underwear should fit snugly to the body (it is often called a second skin) to ensure proper thermoregulation, but at the same time not squeeze muscles or restrict movement. Thermal underwear is followed by a second, middle layer of clothing designed to keep warm, for example, a fleece or a down sweater. Then comes the third, outer layer, which also brings out excess moisture, allows the body to breathe under clothing and protects from external influences, precipitation and wind. For example, a jacket with a Gore-Tex membrane.

In order for the equipment to work correctly and create comfortable conditions, and not cause inconvenience, you must carefully choose each layer and clearly understand for what tasks and conditions you choose clothes. Let's start by choosing a base.

What is thermal underwear and what is it for?

The main function of thermal underwear is to control heat transfer by removing moisture. When you sweat during intense movement, thermal underwear does not accumulate sweat in itself, but removes excess moisture from the body and prevents you from “cooking” under your clothes. If you find yourself in cold conditions and / or do not move actively, thermal underwear helps to keep you warm. It is this functionality that distinguishes specially designed thermal underwear from ordinary cotton and synthetic clothing.

For the manufacture of thermal underwear, technological synthetic fibers, high-quality soft wool, most often merino wool, or a combination of these materials are used. The cut of thermal underwear often involves a combination of materials with different composition, density and properties (ventilation, insulation, muscle support) in different areas.

Composition: thermal underwear made of wool, synthetics and combined materials

Wool, in general, has better thermal insulation properties than synthetics, but absorbs moisture more actively. With intense loads (running, freeride), this will become a noticeable disadvantage: a person sweats a lot, thermal underwear absorbs a large amount of moisture, which does not have time to be removed outside and lingers in clothes - a person begins to “cook” and experience discomfort. Therefore, for intense loads, it is preferable to choose synthetic thermal underwear that will properly remove moisture and control heat transfer, preventing overheating and hypothermia. If you are going to have less intense activities, passive rest, being in very low temperatures, you are looking for thermal underwear for the city or you get cold quickly, give preference to a base layer made of wool, with its good thermal insulation properties.

Please note that in some cases, wool thermal underwear can cause irritation, especially on sensitive baby skin. Therefore, we recommend that adults try on clothes before buying, and for children, choose synthetic models.

Men's, women's and children's thermal underwear

In general, women's and men's thermal underwear does not have big differences from each other. Cut specialized female models takes into account the peculiarities of the female figure and, since girls usually freeze more, it has more insulated zones.

For the manufacture of children's thermal underwear, synthetics are more often used, because wool can cause discomfort. sensitive skin child. As a rule, the main task of children's thermal underwear is not to remove moisture, but to keep warm, so it is usually denser than "adult" models.

In general, models of thermal underwear differ from each other in composition, the presence of compression properties, the recommended temperature regime and design features. When choosing, you should be guided by several points:

  1. Intensity of exercise / high, medium or low activity
  2. Temperature Range
  3. Your individual cold tolerance

Temperature range of thermal underwear

As a rule, manufacturers indicate the recommended temperature regime and preferred activities in the product title or description. For example, the Swiss brand Odlo divides its thermal underwear models into several lines:

  • The ultra-light thermal underwear of the Cool line is designed for the hottest weather.
  • Models marked Light are designed for summer sports, these are light clothing made of fine fabric, the main task of which is to remove moisture from the body
  • Warm - insulated thermal underwear for cold weather and winter views sports
  • Models marked X-Warm are designed for the coldest temperatures

The choice of thermal underwear depending on the activity and intensity of the load

First of all, when choosing thermal underwear, you should focus on the degree of activity: whether it will be high, with intense constant loads (freeride, trail running), medium (mountaineering, hiking) or low (walking in the city, fishing). The main task of thermal underwear for outdoor activities and sports is to control heat transfer due to the timely removal of moisture from the body in order to prevent overheating or hypothermia. With low activity, sweating is less, so the main task of thermal underwear for passive relaxation is to keep warm.

For low activity it is recommended to choose thermal underwear made of wool, for example, Bergans. It retains heat better than synthetics and does not lose its properties over time, it is well suited for everyday wear. It is also worth considering synthetic thermal underwear. Its advantages are density, good moisture removal and ease of care.

thermal underwear for outdoor activities and sports can be divided into compression and non-compression. Due to compression, muscle support is provided, blood circulation is stimulated - the muscles work correctly and are not overloaded. Such thermal underwear, as a rule, has a zonal design (X-Bionic, The North Face). Each zone of clothing is responsible for a specific process: improved moisture removal (under the arms and in the abdomen), enhanced heat retention (in the chest, lower back, shoulders), etc. With low activity, compression creates discomfort. High activity non-compression base layers are usually synthetic (Odlo, Arcteryx, The North Face) or a synthetic/wool blend (Peak Performance) and work best when you are moving. By the way, as a basic, universal thermal underwear (or, if you are buying thermal underwear for the first time), Peak Performance models are almost ideal: in areas with increased sweating, synthetics with their good moisture-wicking properties are used, and in areas that freeze faster than others, wool is used with its ability to keep warm.

Generally, for hiking, trekking and mountaineering suitable thermal underwear of medium or high density, with good breathability and without compression. You can take two sets for climbing: one for climbing / assault, the second, more insulated, for changing at the base camp (or as a backup option). For winter mountaineering and high-altitude ascents, as well as for winter expeditions, Power Stretch thermal underwear can be considered: it is designed for low temperatures and can even be used as a middle layer.

For skiing, on prepared slopes or off-piste, as well as trail running and running training, you should choose compression thermal underwear. It will support the muscles and will stimulate blood circulation, which is important with constant movement and intense exercise. High levels of moisture wicking and breathability are also important for these sports. thermal underwear for winter sports, as a rule, has a zonal design - a combination of zones with insulation (for example, in the shoulders, chest and lower back), reinforcement (for example, in places of increased wear, in the elbow area) and ventilation zones (in places of increased sweating). base layer for summer activities will have a lower density to speed up the removal of moisture from the body.

Manufacturers regularly develop models for specific sports: taking into account the specifics of the loads, their medium intensity, as well as seasonality. However, the choice of thermal underwear is a very individual process. It depends on your personal characteristics (how you tolerate the cold), your activity in a particular sport. For some it is cold in the city at -10°C even in Power Stretch thermal underwear and a puff, for others a model with medium insulation will be enough for a harsh winter expedition. Someone prefers to have a separate set of thermal underwear for each type of activity, the other will choose 1-2 sets that are as versatile as possible for all occasions.

There are also some general rules thermal care. The base layer is in contact with the skin, actively absorbs sweat and odors and therefore needs regular care:

    • Air your thermal underwear outdoors after each workout to prevent the accumulation of unpleasant odors.
    • Wash by hand or machine on a delicate cycle up to 30°C.
    • When machine washing, it is recommended to wash thermal underwear with clothes of similar colors and do not fill the machine to capacity.
    • It is even better to collect thermal underwear together and wash separately from all other things.
    • If you do wash thermal underwear with the rest of your clothes, it's best to set aside items with zippers, buckles, and Velcro so that they don't damage the base layer and leave no snags during the washing process. You can also use a special mesh bag for washing clothes.
    • If possible, use gentle detergent, liquid products powder is preferred.
    • Rinse thermal underwear thoroughly after washing.
    • It is not recommended to use fabric softener, products with chlorine, bleaches, antistatic agents, as well as to iron thermal underwear.

You have probably heard more than once about thermal underwear, which is used by athletes, skiers, snowboarders and many others during the cold winter period. But what it is, how necessary it is and what its properties are, you may not know very well. So, let's start in order to understand this issue.

Let's start with the main thing - what is thermal underwear? Thermal underwear is underwear, which is usually used during active winter recreation. if you look at the root of the question, then the prefix “thermo-” itself, which gives us an understanding that this underwear should provide heating for a person. But, it is immediately worth noting that this is far from the only useful function of such underwear. To be more precise, such underwear should be called functional, but among the people it is still customary to call it thermal underwear.

Thermal underwear itself is used to collect and evaporate moisture that our body actively releases, and, of course, to keep warm (this is achieved through the use of special yarn technologies).

Thermal underwear is most often made from materials such as cotton or synthetics. However, the best underwear is considered to be made of synthetics, with the additional addition of natural fibers. The thing is that natural materials - both wool and cotton - are very bad and take a long time to dry, because they absorb a lot of moisture. As already mentioned, in the manufacture of thermal underwear, a special yarn technology is used - precisely thanks to special way weaving of this material, a small air gap is formed (it is formed due to the creation of small cells), in fact, with the help of which it becomes possible to retain heat as much as possible. It is not the evaporation of sweat that goes away, and it is not removed, but simply remains on clothes, and this, in turn, creates unpleasant sensations and discomfort for both the athlete and the tourist. In this case, the above-mentioned cells again come to the rescue, which, due to snug fit to the body of the athlete allow to distribute sweat over the entire surface, it quickly evaporates - thus, due to the capillary effect, moisture is quickly removed from the body.

There is also multi-layer underwear - in such underwear, its inner (lower) layer helps to remove moisture from the body, and the second - the upper layer, is responsible for evaporation. Thanks to this, the skier's body is not constantly in a wet state and thanks to this, the person does not get supercooled. As you can see, the use of thermal underwear allows the athlete to feel very comfortable even during exercise, and his own heat is used with benefit and efficiently.

What feelings does a person experience when he is wearing such thermal underwear. Feelings will directly depend on what exactly the person will do. so, for example, if we consider an athlete, then his load will be quite short-term and at the same time quite uniform, but high - in this case, if thermal underwear is chosen correctly, sweat will evaporate efficiently and the person will not overcool. If the load is uneven, then it will be very difficult to choose the right underwear. So, for example, at the moment when the load is greatest, a person may experience a feeling of discomfort - he will feel that he is wearing wet underwear, but this feeling will pass quickly enough, since thermal underwear will quickly remove all moisture.

It is not always possible to use thermal underwear, in addition, it is necessary to take into account the weather conditions in which you will be during skiing. To date, the range of thermal underwear is quite large and varied, so you can choose a model, depending on the degree of load and weather conditions, it is very convenient and comfortable. So, you can buy underwear that is designed for everyday use, or one that is designed for some more extreme outings in the mountains or nature, or for competitions. Among the models of thermal underwear, there are those that do not particularly heat, but they remove moisture very quickly and efficiently, and there are those that, on the contrary, heat well, but they remove moisture much worse (or even practically do not remove it at all). For example, for professional athletes, models of thermal underwear were specially developed that not only heat, but also remove moisture very well, moreover, both in the cold season, that is, in winter period, and in the hot, that is, in the summer. By the way, for a hot climate, it will be very good to use synthetic underwear - it is very well ventilated and does an excellent job of neutralizing the irritating effect of sweat on human skin.

In fact, it is very important to choose exactly the thermal underwear that will provide you with maximum protection. Since most companies that manufacture thermal underwear specifically treat it with a variety of antibacterial compounds, you can absolutely not be afraid of either allergies or unpleasant odors. Thermal underwear itself is quite durable and is characterized by a high level of wear resistance. If you properly care for, wash, dry and store properly, then even after prolonged wear, a large number washes, it will keep not only good appearance, but also all its functions and qualities.

Today, one can even single out some classification of thermal underwear, the main criteria of which will be the purpose of thermal underwear, the material from which it is made, the weight of the fabric, and finally the functions that thermal underwear performs.

So, what is the purpose of thermal underwear. Such underwear is used in several cases - these are outdoor sports (both under favorable and unfavorable weather conditions), during classes various types sports, as well as for everyday wear. Eats some features of linen, which depend on its purpose. So, thermal underwear, which is designed to be worn during sports (both extreme sports and water sports), must be made only from synthetic materials. If the underwear will be used during outdoor sports, then the option of adding wool or cotton is acceptable here, as this will make it possible to make it more comfortable. However, such underwear will be appropriate if you wear it for about 3-8 hours, but remember that the greater the content of natural fibers in the fabric, the faster it will be saturated with moisture, and therefore such underwear will no longer isolate moisture. In relation to thermal underwear, which is intended for everyday wear, they do not impose such stringent requirements. Such underwear, first of all, should be quite comfortable and convenient, which means that it may well be made of 100% wool or cotton.

Next, consider the material from which thermal underwear is usually made. Most often these are materials such as polyester (or as it is also called lavsan), polypropylene, wool, cotton or their impurities. But most often, it is pure synthetics that are still used, since it is such a material that allows maximum water drainage, and, moreover, it is more wear-resistant. But with the addition of a certain percentage of wool or cotton, such underwear becomes even more pleasant to wear. Today, they try to use all the known achievements of science, this also applies to the process of manufacturing thermal underwear. So, for its manufacture today, some companies use a material such as modified polypropylene. Such a material has an almost zero level of moisture absorption, which is why it is most often used in the manufacture of thermal underwear for water and extreme sports.

Next, we’ll talk about such a parameter as the specific gravity of the fabric, in other words, it’s just the thickness of the fabric used, it’s logical that if we choose underwear according to the type of yarn weaving, as well as according to the composition of the yarn, then warmer underwear will turn out to be made from heavier and thicker fabrics.

The last parameter of this classification is the functions performed. The main functions of thermal underwear are moisture removal and heating. If a person experiences sufficiently large power loads, then his body emits sweat, which, if accumulated in clothes, will reduce the thermal insulation of linen. As a result, the human body will be forced to spend additional energy on the process of warming and evaporating such excess moisture, and this will entail a certain loss of heat, which is especially undesirable in cold weather. As you can see, choosing the right underwear is quite an important and necessary process. If we consider the underwear that is intended for use during water sports, then due to the fact that it is made of polypropylene, it does not absorb water at all, and moisture, in principle, drains from it very quickly and it dries almost instantly (and even on the human body) - all this contributes to the fact that human energy will practically not be spent. the point is also that propylene has a special structure, due to which it is able to absorb moisture from its environment with a higher temperature (that is, human skin is meant) and remove it to an environment whose temperature is an order of magnitude lower (that is - external environment). Thus, such thermal underwear is perfect (and, by the way, is in great demand) both for athletes who go in for water sports and for tourists who get quite large and intense loads, especially at low temperatures. Some of the existing models of thermal underwear (those with a large specific gravity of the fabric) not only contribute to good evaporation of moisture, but also perfectly isolate heat, which is why it is often used simply as a sweater.

As you can see, thermal underwear is really practically irreplaceable thing, because with its use your rest and sports activities will become even more comfortable and enjoyable.

Until the cold finally sets in, we suggest that you prepare well for them - in a couple of weeks it will not be before, as if we are telling you. Kristina Podrezova explains how to choose thermal underwear, which will soon become almost the main thing in your wardrobe - and not only sportswear.

The colder the temperature outside, the more layers of clothing you should wear. It seems that this rule is long overdue. After all, now you can exchange three pairs of tights and five sweaters for one set of thin thermal underwear and calmly walk down the street even in severe frost.

As a rule, thermal underwear is a set consisting of leggings and a long sleeve. Less often - overalls, shorts or a T-shirt. You can wear thermal underwear as a base layer, instead of tights or a T-shirt - and for girls in a cold autumn or winter, this is a real salvation. Due to one or more layers of fabric made from certain materials, the underwear retains heat, absorbs moisture and dries quickly. This is what helps keep you warm.

Anna Orlova

Before you buy thermal underwear, try it on. It should fit the body well, otherwise the underwear will not perform its main function - removing moisture from the body during physical activity. As a snowboarder, I pay attention to this first thing, because after each descent, a sweaty person will simply freeze on the lift.

Another question is how to choose and wear thermal underwear correctly. To understand this, we suggest studying what fabrics it is made from.

Cotton linen is soft to the touch and pleasantly felt on the body. This thermal underwear is perfect for daily wear. If you plan to actively engage in sports, put this set aside - cotton gets wet quickly, becomes heavy and dries for a very long time. Such underwear can stick to the body and cool it, rather than warm it, which, in turn, increases the risk of catching a cold. Of the advantages of cotton underwear, one can note the low cost and low weight, but you should not wear it in a big minus or for very long walks - for such situations it is better to choose underwear containing wool.

Synthetics

Light, thin, almost not felt on the body, quickly absorbs liquid and dries quickly, and is also relatively inexpensive. Ideal for those who prefer to train even in winter on fresh air and not in a stuffy room. Choose something that consists of polyester or polypropylene. True, it is hardly suitable for long walks - only if the minus and the walk are small, and you walk quickly. Another disadvantage of synthetics is that with very frequent use, over time, the fabric may begin to smell unpleasant.

A great option for every day if the temperature is too low (-20 degrees and below). At the same thickness, wool warms much better than cotton or synthetics. Simply because the properties of wool and special knitting help moisture evaporate quickly (which cotton cannot boast of) and retain heat better (unlike synthetics). We advise you to choose underwear made from merino wool - it feels much nicer on the body than ordinary wool. Of the shortcomings, perhaps, we note the price - it costs more than cotton and synthetic - and the inability to wear it at an average and not very low temperature. Simply because it will be too hot for you.

Another great option for outdoor sports enthusiasts even in winter. Unlike synthetics, silk thermal underwear feels more pleasant on the body and retains its original properties much longer. Cons - it is more expensive than other models and requires more delicate care ( handwash and non-abrasive drying).

How to wear thermal underwear

Wear thermal underwear as a base layer when playing sports, moving to work and ordinary walks.

under static load. If the temperature is from 0 to -5 degrees, use silk or cotton. If from -5 to -15 - cotton, if lower - woolen. Use an additional warming layer (sweaters, cardigans, turtlenecks) if desired.

With active load. From 0 to -10 degrees you can do without thermal underwear, there will be enough insulated tights for outdoor activities, then look at your preferences. If you are very cold, choose underwear that contains silk or wool, if not, give preference to synthetics.

Anna Orlova

professional snowboarder, winner of international and Russian freeride competitions, rider of Roxy, CEP, Giro, "Important insurance"

Since I am actively involved in sports in winter, I prefer 100% synthetics. If the frost is stronger, about 10 degrees, I add an additional layer - a fleece. In severe frosts, I put on a light Roxy jacket with moisture-wicking properties. I also advise you to always pay attention to the details. It is better if the thermal underwear jacket is slightly longer than the belt, and there are cutouts for the fingers on the sleeves - so it will not ride up while riding. The fabric should be pleasantly felt on the body, the seams should be made neatly so that nothing rubs.

If you have already bought a good snowboard jacket with high moisture wicking, then thermal underwear is a must, otherwise nothing will work. So, thermal underwear will absorb moisture, then, evaporating, moisture will fall on the inner fabric of the jacket and be completely removed to the outside. That is why you will be warm, comfortable and cozy to ride. If you put on an ordinary cotton T-shirt, after the first descent it will get wet, and you will immediately freeze. Do not forget that synthetic thermal underwear does not heat and therefore is only suitable for skiing at medium temperatures, but woolen has good moisture-wicking properties and warms well, so you will be comfortable even in cold weather.

If you wear thermal underwear and still want to look stylish, the layering trend will help you. For example, you can safely wear a turtleneck with a sleeveless dress or with a knitted vest in the style of the 70s. A thermal jumper can be worn under a plaid shirt, which does not have to be buttoned up - you get a casual grunge or hipster look, depending on what shoes and accessories you complement it with. Thermal leggings do not have to be hidden under jeans or trousers, they can be combined with a laconic plain dress, a tunic below the knee or long vest on the belt. In the “layered” trend, the rule works: the more, the better - so don’t be afraid to experiment.

High-quality thermal underwear that will work 100 percent is not cheap, it’s not for you to buy grandmother’s woolen socks on the market. And so the error will cost a tidy sum.

But the right thing chosen is able to warm in the most severe frosts, will benefit and pay off with a head. Therefore, before going to the store, you should familiarize yourself with the basic criteria and arm yourself with knowledge on how to choose thermal underwear.

Thermal underwear is a universal thing, suitable for different cases life. There is a huge range of things designed not only for warming in extreme cold, but also for sports, for physical activity, and in a fairly warm climate and even in summer.

Therefore, let's say, in order to choose thermal underwear for fishing, you need to start from some indicators, and completely from others, in order to choose a kit for summer skiing. After all, such clothes have many functions, and, in addition to warming, there are a number of others, no less necessary and useful.

Therefore, when choosing a kit, it is necessary to take into account the future purpose of the purchase. And already, starting from this, start choosing the most suitable option for you.

Thermal underwear is, in any case, an element of underwear. It is in direct contact with the skin and provides maximum comfort and protection, not only from the cold, but also from overheating and sweat.

Because there is three main tasks of such products.

  1. Warm the body, retain and retain heat. Kits where such a function is a priority are needed in winter. They perfectly warm in the most severe frosts and do not allow its owner to freeze.
  1. Provide air circulation so that the body does not sweat, does not steam. In such suits it is comfortable in spring, autumn and even summer. Such thermal underwear for men is indispensable for active leisure, hiking, in conditions of temperature differences.
  1. Draw moisture away from the skin. This function is the most important when playing sports and increased physical activity, thermal underwear for sports does an excellent job with it, removing all the moisture to the outside.

So, having realized where and how you will use thermal underwear, you can safely dive into the features, composition and style of each of them.

Material and composition of fabrics for thermal underwear

Regardless of male, female or baby costume, the material from which thermal underwear is sewn can be different quality and may consist of one or more layers.

All this determines its purpose, affects the comfort and wear resistance of clothing. And, therefore, thinking about how to choose the right thermal underwear, all these criteria must be taken into account.

The material from which thermal underwear is sewn

  1. natural materials. The most common and affordable are wool and cotton. But clothes from them have their pros and cons. Although, we must pay tribute, - this is actually the warmest option, suitable even for winter fishing - on ice, near the hole.

There is also bamboo fiber, from which, one might say, the perfect thermal underwear is created. This fabric is durable and wear-resistant, perfectly retains heat and warms, while almost does not absorb moisture. However, the cost of such products is extremely high.

Ordinary wool gives the skin discomfort, it pricks and causes itching. However, it is about the usual sheep wool. But merino wool does not cause discomfort at all and it is believed that it is from it that the ideal thermal underwear for winter is sewn.

  1. Synthetic fabrics. With all the negative connotation of the word "synthetics", it should not be scared at all, thinking about which thermal underwear is better to choose. Modern materials such as polyester, elastane, polypropylene are quite pleasant to the touch. They fit perfectly to the body, stretch well and “sit down” on the figure. Such clothes retain heat well and, most importantly, do not absorb moisture at all. And, therefore, the wearer of the costume will not experience the inconvenience of the clothes getting wet and sticking to the body. Although, it should be noted, the body almost does not breathe through such fabrics, and it is still not worth staying in such a suit for a long time. But the undoubted advantage of synthetics is that it does not lose its marketable appearance for a long time, does not shrink when washed and does not stretch, and therefore serves for a long time.
  1. Mixed fabrics - such a hybrid of natural fibers with the addition of synthetics. Actually, they mix all the pros and cons of natural fabrics and 100% synthetics. They are quite wear-resistant, perfectly erased and do not change shape and appearance. The selected option warms well and allows the body to breathe. However, it has all the same negative feature of natural fabrics to get wet and then stick to the body.

Thermal underwear, whether it be underpants or a jacket, can be made from a single layer of fabric or be multi-layered.

So, when purchasing thermal underwear for everyday wear, leisurely walks, autumn-spring weather, it is better to give preference to natural fabrics or mixed with synthetics. One layer is enough.

For sports, outdoor activities, whether it's a run in the park in the summer or cross-country skiing, a synthetic one-layer suit is perfect. It will contain odors, perform an antibacterial function and will last a long time and with high quality, will not hinder movements.

For warming, it is better to give preference to natural fabrics, namely wool. The ideal option is two-layer underwear. In this, you can achieve maximum warmth, comfort and skin health.

When choosing children's thermal underwear, it is worth completely eliminating 100% synthetics. It is better to give preference to single-layer cotton things. Or purchase a two-layer or even a three-layer winter suit.

The word "thermo" in such products is important. Therefore, hoping that the highest quality two-layer suit will warm you by itself in a twenty-degree frost is simply stupid. The suit is designed to keep and retain heat.

And therefore, the more actively you move, the more actively your clothes will “work” and more accurately reveal all their functions. Therefore, fishing, which is not very active, will be as comfortable as possible even in the most severe frost, only if the angler has at least a small but regular movement.

Size matters

Regardless of whether we are talking about choosing a sweater or underpants, socks, thermal underwear simply must be matched exactly to size. A good suit should not be tight and tight, it is simply uncomfortable and restricts movement.

But the suit should not hang out, since the layer of air is the main enemy in the “work” of thermal underwear. Clothing should fit well to the body. Only the right size will bring maximum benefit. Therefore, ideally, of course, you should measure underwear before buying.

Seam-seamless problems

Synthetic models can be completely seamless. Such options are as comfortable and aesthetic as possible, plus, they are devoid of such an unpleasant problem as the ability to disperse and tear.

The rest of the things are done with seams. They can be internal or external.

  1. seams out pleasant to the body, do not rub, do not stick. However, they show through more noticeably outerwear and can be a big disadvantage, from an aesthetic point of view. If you choose thermal underwear for children, then you should opt for just such tailoring.
  2. Seams inside should be carefully checked and considered. Clothing with such seams is as invisible as possible under the main clothing. However, careless tailoring can cause inconvenience. To avoid this, it is better to give preference to flat, that is, not protruding seams.

Thermal underwear - what is it

Many people think that thermal underwear is a type of heated clothing. All this confusion because of the prefix to the word thermo. It sounds nice, but the meaning is completely different in it.

With this name, manufacturers wanted to highlight the properties of underwear, which retains heat and removes moisture. Thanks to special materials and tailoring features, thermal underwear can perfectly cope with these tasks. This is especially true among men, they sweat much more actively due to an active lifestyle. If ordinary cotton is used instead of a termukha, then it is saturated with sweat and can cause hypothermia.

You will be surprised, but in addition to winter options, there are also summer ones. Therefore, I will tell you what thermal underwear is best for winter.

Thermal underwear must fit snugly to the body, do not buy it, relying on the indicated size or with a margin. It should feel like a second skin, try it on before you buy. Do not be afraid that thermal underwear will sit down after washing. If you take a quality product, this will not happen.

You need to wash the thermal underwear either by hand or in the delicate wash mode at 30-40 degrees, without squeezing, because it cannot be ironed. The color must also be matched color scheme clothes you wear and try to buy solid and solid color sets so you don't look silly.

What is thermal underwear made of?

  1. Polyester;
  2. Polypropylene;
  3. Wool;
  4. Cotton;
  5. Various combinations of the above materials.

Without synthetics, now nowhere, and if it comes to long-term preservation of heat, then its use is mandatory. Polyester perfectly removes moisture, preventing it from being absorbed into the fabric. The price of this type of thermal underwear is low, therefore it is profitable. The main problem with this choice is the inability of the skin to breathe, so it is only suitable for active and extreme sports.

Cotton allows the skin to breathe while retaining warmth. Just keep in mind that natural fabrics absorb moisture and prolonged wearing of such thermal underwear is impossible. By absorbing sweat, the underwear will become heavier and you will start to freeze.
